I'd take the 290x for the extra memory and likely superior DX12 performance.
Only if it is a custom model though, avoid AMD's stock cooler like the plague.
I'd of gone for a 390 over a 290x.. It'll be interesting to hear what temps you get and what fan profile you run.
I know but I sold them because it was very rare that they didvery good gpu's but I found poor drivers. my titan feels like a waste of money but it has nigh on same performance, ie couldn't tell the difference and zero issues.
Just read through the article, still shows the 780ti ahead in most games which contradicts what you hear across the forums.

This one review contradicts just about every other recent review out there. His loyalties are being questioned over at Anandtech on the forums with plenty to back up there statements.
Id take what actually users say rather than a reviewer.
I went from a GTX970>R290X>780ti and I currently find the 780ti is the fastest of all of 'em but only if I run fraps to give an indication as theres hardly anything it in it. I also find that my 780ti overclocks reasonably well when benching, better than the 290x and 970.
Why are temps such an issue? Can these cards survive at like 100c......For heat, I have this hole in my wall called a window. Saves me using my heater eh.
I wouldn't invest money into the 780(ti) now especially with having only 3GB - but they get written off a bit compared to the reality. A bit subjective but with the clocks I'm running my 780 will put pretty much any OC 290X in its place![]()
