780Ti vs 290x

I went from a GTX970>R290X>780ti and I currently find the 780ti is the fastest of all of 'em but only if I run fraps to give an indication as theres hardly anything it in it. I also find that my 780ti overclocks reasonably well when benching, better than the 290x and 970.

290x all day long. In newer games especially the 290x is faster from what reviews show. It looks like it will be a better dx12 card to boot and has 4gb of vram v 3 on the 780ti.

I'd take the 290x for the extra memory and likely superior DX12 performance.

Only if it is a custom model though, avoid AMD's stock cooler like the plague.

I know but I sold them because it was very rare that they did :( very good gpu's but I found poor drivers. my titan feels like a waste of money but it has nigh on same performance, ie couldn't tell the difference and zero issues.

Just read through the article, still shows the 780ti ahead in most games which contradicts what you hear across the forums.

I'd of gone for a 390 over a 290x.. It'll be interesting to hear what temps you get and what fan profile you run.

Why are temps such an issue? Can these cards survive at like 100c

Even then got a 290x as price is my only factor. £180 for a windforce 290x with 2 years warranty? Count me in.

For noise, couldn't care less. When I'm playing I've either got Corsair sp2500 blasting away or I'm listening with the Fidelio X1s.

For heat, I have this hole in my wall called a window. Saves me using my heater eh.

I switched to the 980's because of the same reason, and then to the Ti's because I could :D

This one review contradicts just about every other recent review out there. His loyalties are being questioned over at Anandtech on the forums with plenty to back up there statements.

Id take what actually users say rather than a reviewer. You don't know where reviewers loyalties lay. Users will tell you from their point of view from using the card. And from their own findings. Reviews can tailor their findings.

I wouldn't invest money into the 780(ti) now especially with having only 3GB - but they get written off a bit compared to the reality. A bit subjective but with the clocks I'm running my 780 will put pretty much any OC 290X in its place :P

Exactly - and the only person on this thread to say he has actually owned both cards has this to say;

And for further evidence of what he is saying check out the OCUK Heaven Benchmarking results and compare the unbiased results.

Temps are an issue if you're overclocking, if you've got a decent stable overclock on your CPU the last thing you want to do is to introduce something that's going to raise the ambient temperatures inside your case by a large margin.

I wouldn't right them off but as a purchase at this moment in time i think the 290/x are better buys. Funny thing is you would still pay more for a gtx780/ti most likely.
