is it worth complaining to royal mail about this?

Got a card through the door yesterday for a missed special delivery. For some reason the card told me to go to the depot a couple of miles down the road to collect, rather than the usual one a few mins walk away. I didn't think too much of it, as i haven't lived here for too long and figured maybe as it was special delivery/a large package etc they might take it elsewhere.

Got a bus and a 15 min walk to the other depot where they had a quick look before noticing my post code and telling me it was the wrong card and that it must be at my local one. I dashed back as quick as i could (got a bit sweaty) but was refused entry at my local office where there was a large queue. I was literally 30 seconds late and they weren't interested at all when i tried to plead my case.

So i've ended up taking at least an hour out of my day, paid money for public transport and not managed to pick up an item that i really could have done with this weekend. I'm pretty miffed about it and despite not being someone who complains, often if ever, i really feel like doing so on this occasion.

Anywhere in particular i should vent?

If it bothered you then yeah make a complaint. That's what the complaints team is for and you're right to be a little miffed. Not sure what type of compensation they'd give if any though.

They're not going to do anything about it. You've let off a little steam by posting here so enjoy the rest of the weekend and leave it at that.

geez life is too short.

move on

It's mainly that i really wanted the item this weekend and utter ineptitude on the part of the delivery person has meant i won't be able to have it until tuesday.

I'm sorry, but i have a right to be annoyed about that don't I? Surely they're being paid (by us esentially) to provide a certain level of service and when that service is pants then surely we have a right to complain, if it's genuinely affected us. As i said, i almost NEVER ever complain / cause a fuss but...

I don't care about the 3 quid i spent on transport or whatever, but i'd planned to use the item (an 85mm nikon lens) over the weekend and yes i can easily 'get over it'...it's not the end of the world, but actually, i will fill in the complaints form. After which i almost certainly won't give it another thought :)

Next time them cold callers ring about an accident you've been in tell them this story, I'm sure they could help you claim thousands of compensation.

common sense would have been to phone your local office first to see if the item was there.

i bow down to this - wish i would have :(

i'm pretty certain that had this happened to anyone here, they would also have been at least a tad miffed btw. Feel free to deny ;)

They may give you some free stamps and considering how much stamps cost, thats a small fortune now

Write to your local mp whilst you're at it

I know you think you're being funny, but I don't really see the need for the sarcasm to be honest

The gov sold their shares otherwise it'd more of a valid point tbh. Its the queens mail, technically you could discuss this with MP usually more with regard to a major business or area as they have a monopoly. They did get fined a heck of a lot of money not long ago

Feel free to complain about it if it means you vent a little steam, but don't expect anything to come of it.

Complain , us Brits don't complain enough at poor service so end up with continually poor service

I'm sorry but would hardly call it 'utter ineptitude' - bit harsh maybe? the guy probably made a little mistake and used the wrong card. Personally if I had been in your situation and really needed the item I would have contacted my local delivery depot before heading off to the other one, but maybe that's just me.
