Talk to me about Washer Dryers?

Got an LG Washer/Dryer it's been silent and trouble free for 3 years so far. After this I don't think I'd buy separate machines for Wash/Dry again unless I end up with 3 kids or something!

On the lookout for a washer dryer for the kitchenette attatched to the bedsit I'm in at the mo.

As it's such a tiny space, noise is as priority so am I right in thinking LG direct drive and Samsung's are good?

Any others?

Load detection and sensor drying seems like good features.

Ideally I'd like one of the darker coloured models, I like the grays and the silvers as opposed it to the white. In the end I suppose reliability, noise and features take precedent though.

Where's good to buy one? I see people linking AO.com, they good? Seems pretty good value in that you can have them remove the old one and install the new one for £20. I'd rather have a professional do this for me.

Happy with our LG F1496AD5. Doesn't look like AO.com have it in stock at the moment, however John Lewis do. We've had it just over a year now so no idea if it's been superseded in that time.

The other one that looked good at the time was the Samsung WD906U4SAGD but that was too deep.

Thanks both. That LG at JL might be perfect, just the right depth for me too. I've noticed some are really deep these days.

Not quite sure what to think after watching the video on the JL page though, that's got to have the weirdest sound effects I've ever encountered in a product overview video!

Price seems good. I've always been under the impression it's not worth paying for an extended warranty, would you agree? The warranty on the LG is only 2 years, whereas some have 5 years. It's £95 for the 5 year upgraded, so I guess £30 a year for the extra 3 years. Worth it or not?

Purely a judgement if you like peace of mind. If it helps, I've had mine (the previous model but almost identical spec) for 4.5 years with zero issues already.

Used AO and mostly a good experience but a bit of after sales "buy our warranty" left a bit of a sour taste. DIdn't want to take "no" for an answer, even stated something along the lines of "well, I hope your machine doesn't break down after the factory warranty has expired" before hanging up.

If you're buying from JL, you'll get the extra 3 years for free by redemption after delivery at the moment.

That's only the larger machine unfortunately by the looks of it. It would jut out from the counter by about 10cm. Might look a bit funky...or I could use it as a handy bit of extra counterspace I suppose!

Went for the LG one in the end after checking them all out at my local JL.
It was the smallest, so perfect for the tight space constraints, seems to be one of the quietest, has sensor drying and I like the colour :p

Hoping the dryer part will come in handy in the winter months.

Found it tough to leave John Lewis though, so much stuff on display I didn't even know I wanted!

Afternoon All! Well, it's time for a new washer/dryer and I'm tempted by one of these three from John Lewis:

I'm leaning towards either the LG or John Lewis machine - both seem to be reasonably well thought of. So, an extra £50 for the JL machine with an extra years guarantee and free express deilvery or the LG?

We have had a AEG Lavamat Turbo L75480WD for 2 years now, only issue I've had was to pull some fluff out the drain, which took 30 seconds.

We got it from AO.com but my aunt works there so got it for around £400.

We've had a hotpoint for the last 7 years, and it's been brilliant. 7kg load iirc, and pretty silent. Would definitely buy again when the time comes to replace it.

LG.

Had my new LG installed yesterday from JL after a few re-scheduled deliveries (at my request). The same one linked above by Putty.

Unfortunately it seems to to emit a high pitched sound when rotating the drum, like an electrical frequency at around 15kHz. I installed SpectrumView on my iPhone to check it wasn't me going mad, but it really does seem to emit this noise. I'm guessing it's due to the electromagnet setup to spin the drum, perhaps a dodgy transformer?

It's reaally annoying when I'm in the kitchen and I have to close the door when sitting in the next room to block it out.

Will give it a few more cycles to see if it settles down, but otherwise will call to see if it can be fixed or replaced.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm currently trying to order the LG however John Lewis are out of the stock so I may have to go via ao.com

Definitely worth getting that noise checked out just in case!
