I agree with you. However, that was also the rationale by which the West armed the mujhahiddeen in Afghanistan, and supported the Shah in Persia/Iran. And arguably, Saddam, too.

They didn't work out so well.

Maybe the moral is that as we aren't so hot at running other places, we ought to quit trying to.

Most of these countries have much more common ground culture wise than European countries (hence easier to settle in) so why are they making a beeline for Europe

Israel is building a fence to keep Syrian refugees out. You don't see much mention of that in the western media for some reason. They also seem to have a rather contemptuous view of whats happening in Europe:

Israel has begun building a fence along part of the country's eastern border with Jordan as Syrian civil war refugees and other migrants flee their countries.

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to refer to the crisis in Europe following a massive influx of refugees from the war-torn Middle East, saying that "we see today what happens when countries lose control of their borders."

"There is a combination of very brutal terror that spreads along our borders, of migrant worker infiltrators, of smugglers, and also in the face of the human tragedy that is taking place 360 degrees around us.

"This means that we must regain control and ensure Israel's control over its borders, almost 360 degrees because we also have a border with the sea."

Israel previously built fences along its border with Egypt to stop African migrants, and also along the Golan Heights bordering Syria.

Why on earth are we accepting all the refugees? Why not accept elderly, women and children send the men back to fight for the homes?

The government has done nothing for the last few years apart from complain about the deficit and has cut benefits and services constantly. Accepting all the refugees will just cost money the government claim not to have.
 
Will we ever see the day that the west take sides with Russia? Seems the sensible thing to do but are constantly in a power struggle whilst the world crumbles.

Nobody in their right mind would oppose a refugee. What we are discussing is whether these people are actually refugees as it seems to be a majority of angry men who appear to have left the women and children to be stoned and raped who think that they have licence to go where the hell they like because there's woolly headed liberals crying and waving welcome flags.

Russia is part of the problem today - a powerful nation that operates on, and perpetuates criminality, misinformation and genuine human rights abuses around the world. It's a shame because as you say, they could be great allies in the fight against Islamic terrorism but instead under Putin they are regressing into a medieval mafia state.

As the migrants come in and take over an area, where are the locals supposed to go? As I keep saying, Britain is full - we need to build a new city the size of Cardiff every year to cope with net migration and we're just not doing it. It's inevitable that increasing numbers of Brits will go abroad (legally in almost all cases), leaving the country with a brain drain.

The 'Britain is full' crowd won't be taking much brain with them, I wouldn't worry about that. Not that they'd ever integrate into a foreign country either.

Have you offered your home in Germany to a young Syrian male of fighting age then?

I think you'll find it's the intelligent ones who will be able to emigrate a lot easier - of course, at the moment every Brit has the right to emigrate to Germany so it's no big deal. In the future I expect Germany will become a lot less of a desirable place to emigrate to.

What's this obsession with young men of fighting age? All a bit homo-erotic if you ask me. Besides, local government is doing a fine job of putting up the men, women and children that are arriving in the region as is.

The sort of murdoch-drone chumps that would leave the UK because it's they think it's full of too many migrants have absolutely zero chance of being accepted into a foreign country and would be back home in a matter of months complaining no-one liked them.
