There's a bit of a flaw in this statement, being that their atrocities are generally carried out over there, in their country, to a single person or a couple of people. It's a slightly different situation when you turn that around, when they're in our country and they're the single person or small group.
That said, I'm already letting my opinions get tainted by the xenophobia in this thread so I'll just bow out and leave you guys to discuss it.

to a small group? its sunni's killing shiites (who are 65% of the iraq's population, 10% of syria and 10% of turkey) and any other denomination they find (kurds, yadizi etc) And thats just one group's hate. Nor does a groups intolerance diminish when they become the minority (as we've seen). I dont think your presumption is accurate.

Fortunately we seem to be taking families from the refugee camps rather than the invasion force marching across Europe, so I guess our risk is lower than Germany etc.

It would me nice to think so, And I do hope that's the case. There are dangers in the family unit as well though and they still require vetting, as we've seen (and not wishing to derail the thread here) with the nuclear family issue of migration going the other way... parents raising children in toxic environments or simply carting them away before they know better to a warzone.
Going out on a limb here but your answering your own question by reacting as you are and by feeling the need to drop a parting "racist" shot across the bows whilst clearly still not leaving the thread as you claimed. The "why" is only in your head but we know you "are" giving a toss.

Haven't even had time to get their clothes dry from their trip across the Mediterranean Sea and they are already demanding another one. Must be a real trauma for locals, their lives turned upside down totally.

I just don't get this. If they are escaping the atrocities caused by the civil war, how come they are not more patient and give authorities and locals a break. Should be grateful for being in a safe country and getting all necessities for free. The same thing happened in Hungary, they didn't like having their fingerprints taken so they rioted and forced their way out of camp. Sickening.

It will add no value the mentality is so entrenched it's frightening. There are people here who think Sharia Law is a possibility, who think patrols in Whitechapel are carried out by hundreds of muslims rather than 4 or 5 of Chowdry's bunch of no hopers, who actually believe that 5% of the population will overthrow the government and monarchy, who actually believe they will be raped whilst typing in this thread etc .....
Actually that doesn't mean anything. I bet those Stormfront people watch the BBC and read the same newspapers we do...
The differences between us (if any, I've never been there) will be in how we respond to those videos.
And if we respond the same, well, I'm not sure that means what you think it means. It maybe that immigration is now a hot topic across the board, and is dividing opinion on along one of two lines... let them in or keep them out.
The truth is, many of us are being pushed toward extreme ends of the spectrum by the extreme nature of current events. I know my own opinion has become much more anti-EU in recent days. If we had a referendum tomorrow, I'd vote to leave, and I don't think I would ever said that before.
The Xenophobic parting shot. As the arguments here are generally against/about a multitude of nationalities and its one of the occasions where both definitions could apply in your context. I was just using either word interchangeably as either one doesn't change my point
