There are TV's that do 120hz interpolation so it looks like the panels are capable

There are plenty of 4K TN panels, so it's most certainly just an issue of waiting for DP 1.3 for a single cable solution.

They could technically have done a dual DP 1.2 120 Hz 4K monitor, but that would be pretty niche.

DP1.3 was finalized a year ago, Asus put out a statement in May of 2014 saying 4K120 was 1-2 years away.

Single GPUs, SLI/Crossfire can.

Though its quite a niche market I guess.

Yes, although I was actually referring to the lack of DP 1.3 support on any current GPU.

I'm under the impression that it actually doesn't cost that much to simply replace the controller.

1.3 must be a hassle to work with as I haven't seen anyone killing themselves to adopt it.
