Last time I visited Cologne I remember seeing groups of men / women drinking and sleeping on the streets. After getting to know some locals they blamed it all on Turks and made it quite clear how they feel about them.

I loved the city and the people were really friendly but I am surprised to see the public being so pro-immigration as the anti-turkish sentiments aren't exactly hidden.

Maybe you were confused and you were actually in Mallorca and the ones drinking/sleeping were English. Just a wild guess.

That's the thing, you are only seeing one side of it! Generally it's the government that is pro-immigration, not it's people. Just like a growing majority of UK people don't want 10,000+ Syrians coming to the UK, but the media wont show that :p

If you draw a straight line from recent events it's not difficult to extrapolate a future Germany. The videos above show that there is already unrest in the country. More unrest will lead to more government control which Merkel would probably love. Let's not forget that it's already a country that prohibits mowing the lawn on a Sunday.

History shows quite the opposite. The Turks in Germany, in example, are slowly being assimilated, they are less religious and more likely to identify themselves as Germans compared to their parents.

I'm a bit surprised by ammout of venom the usual xenophobic suspects are spewing. Your lives must be quite sad if you feel better by attacking desperate refugees, who have risked their lifes running away from a living hell.

You don't need to extrapolate anything, you just need to open your eyes and look at the facts instead of posting irrational rants and scare mongering. Germany is slowly but surely assimilating 3 million Turks, the video is an exception not the norm, the overall statistics prove it.

These were more homeless alcoholics rather than stupid drunk half naked Brits (not sure which is worse) but fair enough :D

My point was that Germany isn't unaware to the problems that comes with immigration (particularly large groups of one nationality) but still they say "come".

Personally I think its down to a mix of the post war guilt that still hangs over the country and a response to the ageing population problems they have coming.

That or the Germans use facts and statistics when making decisions, rather than emotions and preconceived ideas.

There is a good reason why there are many news stories about citizens not being able to afford treatment there . . .

Assimilating you say? That's working well when the President of Turkey visits Germany and tells thousands of supporting Turks not to assimilate.

I think 'merge' would be a more apt word.

Funny I know well educated women that have settled in the UK (married with kids) but hate immigrants sat about drinking booze and making the place look untidy - their words not mine.

Crane in SA - sad incident for anyone to get killed. Simply a common problem with the safety regulations and un-natural weather in the region. It's bad enough when the region gets rain and the number of road accidents goes through the roof (they drive bumper-to-bumper without breaking distance).

However the website corrects this for UAE:

And they also employ a "What about them?" defense, noting that the Gulf states aren't the only nations not helping give homes to victims of war. Amnesty International points out that other high-income countries like Russia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea have offered zero resettlement options.
