At 11am today Iain McNicol, Labour’s general secretary, will enter a waiting room reserved for the leadership and deputy leadership candidates and give advance notice of the results.
The two winners will then be shown to another closed room and left alone. They will have just half an hour to make a series of key decisions before the outcome is revealed to a waiting audience of MPs and journalists at a central London conference centre.
