What's Next For You?

I thought they were 180ish as standard - the one I've been in definitely was. Either way it didn't feel like it would be massively improved by a map

not really sure. I don't see anything that I like more than the S2000 that isnt double the price but will be twice as much fun to make it 'worth it'.

The only thing I would like is an E92 M3 but I don't think I would have the passion for it that I have for my current car.

I did consider what I will do next recently and looked at S15s as a side step or moving to a DC5 or something but really I wanted an S2000 since I was 17 and now I have one I can't see me getting rid of it.

I am looking at the possibility of a second car that I can just smash miles onto that is a bit more practical so something like a Jazz/Fiesta is probably next.

Something along the lines of an S5 / RS5 seems like the correct upgrade path, however given that i keep my cars for 1million years...........

I have a mixture of cars I'm interested in at the moment.

Saab 9-3 Carlsson/Turbo X
BMW E92 of some sort
Mercedes w204 of some sort
Vectra vxr as a daft option.

I love S2000s... the balance is sublime. I've not found anything quite so easy to drift and enjoy it so much at the same time.

Supercharge it? :D

As much as I would like the extra power, I think I would probably keep it how it is at least for another year before even considering something like that. It is still a challenge to get the best out of and I like that.

I decided last year to have a year off spending money on cars. It has meant that I have spent the past 9 months carefully considering what I want to do to the S2000.

The list is basically remedial/improvement work that will restore the car rather than modify it.

Things like a suspension overhaul with new bushes and new bolts installed in a way to prevent seized bolts etc.

the other endo of the list is paintwork, refurbing things like the rocker cover and reupholstering worn areas like the seat.

That kind of stuff would give me more pleasure than simply more power.

I know what I want, what I actually end up with is a different matter. We are going to be looking at buying a house next year and the Mrs keeps mentioning babies. I'd like a 3series with some toys and power.. But I can't see it happening yet.

It's interesting (although I guess it shouldn't be surprising) that you have 2 types of people very clearly defined here. Those who keep their cars because they work, and those who always want the next thing and to keep up progression. i wonder if that pattern would correlate with those who have kids and those who dont?

Definitely affects the 2.2 - we had a load of Mazda 6s as pool cars in my last job with the 2.2 and at least one was always out of service having a new DPF (or it felt like that anyway)

Like all diesels they feel quite punchy but in reality 230bhp (in reality it'll be closer to 200 without doing a lot of other bits) isn't much more than 150 when it's all delivered in one lump in a short band of revs

I have read up on those. and have decided if it was to happen i would have the DPF Gutted and remapped at the same time. £390 at the local tuning place and that includes the map done on a dyno!

Well my e46 320Ci is nearing 110K miles so will probably run it for another year or so. Next one will have to be a 5 door as we'll be thinking about kids so been looking for cars around the £15K mark. Must be petrol as I only cover about 8K miles a year but struggling to find something that really grabs me. New C Class is a bit too expensive as are F10s. First choice as it stands is probably another 3 series (f30), ideally a 328i auto.

My 320d is nearing 100k miles now so I'll probably keep it for another year or so as I'm doing about 40k a year at the moment. After that I think it's time for a decent engine. The economy from my 320d ED is great (800+ miles out of a tank on a long jaunt with careful driving) but the 4 cylinder engine is less than great. I'm thinking it'll be another 3 series so most likely a 330d as it'll be a reasonable balance between good performance and fuel economy. As well as being able to say goodbye to 4 pot.

I have a tough decision to make. Do I choose a company car or take the monthly cash instead and keep using my own car?

I do fancy a Qashqai 4x4 version, so need to weight up the options regarding privately owned or rented by the company.

I really really really want a Granturismo Sport with MC Shift gearbox. What a machine. Those manual paddle shifts in Race mode are instantaneous with a snap

Average £48k though for even a 2008.

Need to work harder then :D

Something with a V8 next for me after my 3.0i Z4.

V8 with a Manual, at the minute the new Mustang is ticking all the right boxes, so hopefully when they go a little cheaper in the future.

TVR Chimaera's are down near the £10,000 mark now. Come next year when my insurance comes down I think I'll be looking at those. Either that or an Imported Datsun 240Z from Europe somewhere (not very sensible but it would be a heap of fun)

I'm not a million miles away in Devon - If I'm in the area I'll let you know or you're passing then drop me a PM, you're welcome to have a shot in mine. Mines on standard springs, bilstein shocks and pretty much new bushes, links, top mounts etc etc all around. What I can say is that under certain conditions, "stage 1" is too much power in that chassis. How much different springs, RARB etc would help I dont know
Cheers. If I'm ever down that way I'll send you a PM :). I'm quite keen to see just how much of a difference there is over the standard car. I sort of get what you mean about the chassis, although mine is running on 8 year old suspension bits. When I had Yokohama V105s all around it definitely felt like the car leans over way to much in the bends. I suppose getting coilovers would help the most with that but £££ for proper ones. I wouldn't want to go mad lowering it either because it has to be used as a daily car, so finding a midway point would be ideal.
