The labour Leader thread...

The press is on it's merry way with some time travel:

Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott were lovers

Details of their past relationship were revealed yesterday after Mr Corbyn was criticised for failing to step in when his shadow international development secretary verbally attacked a female MP who questioned his commitment to sexual equality.

Friends said that Mr Corbyn and Ms Abbott began their relationship in the late 1970s when the newly elected Labour leader was a councillor in Haringey, north London. He was separated from his first wife, Jane Chapman, a fellow Labour councillor, whom he had married in 1974.

Loooking forward to more dirty dog revelations.

I have always thought Dianne Abbott and Michael Portillo had something going on - they looked so comfy sat next to each other on TV!

EDIT:

Their affair is said to have included a tour of East Germany on his motorbike

Can two people have an affair when neither are romantically involved with someone else (he had separated from his wife):p?

And so the media attack begins.
The story about the relationship with Abbott is hardly an attack. But it is a reflection of the fact that he now has a job that makes him one of probably only two people likely to be the next elected leader of the country. He should expect his life to be put under a microscope, and if he didn't he's at best naive. Also, as a prospective PM, I'd say we're entitled to know, whereas prior to his leadership bid, nobody cared.

....
They've known each other all their lives, and are friends. They were at school together. You're right, they clearly are comfortable with each other, but as far as I'm aware, there's never been any hint of a relationship more intimate than just very good friends. If there has been, I missed it.

You took my comment the wrong way, I do agree with what you said. However I am not sure JC really understands the intensity of present day media scrutiny. This intense media examination is a pretty recent thing mainly due to the internet and social media.

And the nature of 24-hour news channels, meaning they have lots of hours to try to fill.

I would have thought Chuka Umunna's experience would have given JC a good hint about the level of press intrusion to expect. They will now subject him to far more than even leadership candidates, and very unfairly, family, friends, neighbours, school pals and the great-great-great-grandpuppy of his childhood pet dog can all expect to be pestered.

I don't really follow politics or understand left wing / right wing, reason I don't follow politics is because I see politicians as much of the same I can't relate to these people.

However out of interest ... is Corbyn was prime minister what would be his policies on immigration and these refugees comming to Europe? Would he welcome them with open arms, would he have strict border control etc? I know obviously policies haven't been laid out as it's too early but what side of the fence does he sit on? As I know DC said we would take in 20,000 refugees so my question is.. what would be most likely JC would do? Anyone have any rough ideas?

Thanks.

I know I could potentially be branded "racist" but I don't want all these refugees coming here mainly because of security we don't know there history, who they are, do they belong to isis etc etc. Also there are plenty of safe countries to stop at before they arrive here, but because they know we have a free health system and a benefit system then I feel that's the main lure for a lot of them. We already have people in our own country who use food banks and struggle to get by charity should start at home imo.
