*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

what content has been removed ? all of the strikes are still there, playable at both their starter difficulty, and in a playlist

all of the story missions are there, as are all the launch crucible game modes like clash, control etc.. same with the crucible maps. They even get new ones for free here.

The only thing that's been removed is the weekly heroic strike, but that was removed for us all. What are you thinking of that's been removed ?

The nightfall is now light level based, and you can get to 280 light using all the vendor gear which vanilla players should be able to buy ?

All the vendor gear requires you to be level 40 which players who haven't bought TTK are stuck at 34. However the herioc strike, NF's etc. have done what they have in previous DLC's - the level which you can access them has increased inline with the new increased level cap. The difference is obviously, previously you onyl needed to be level 20 to equip legendary so could increase your level to the new cap even without the DLC. However now it is XP based it has moved NF's and herioc strike out reach of people who haven't bought TTK.

I know the arguement is that 'out of reach' is effectively the same as removed but I dont' know what people thought was going to happen.

People are getting blues that drop at 280 defense.

I bet with time you could get to nightfall level. But yeah, had forgotten they raised the cap for legendary and exotics to level 40 when Vanilla players can only get to 34. Needing DLC to use decent gear is poor on bungie's / activision's part IMO.

They have basically gone back to vanilla destiny - you need to be max level xp to equip the best armour to be highest level. The problem is though it is a no win situation - negate the changes they made to the XP level / Light level as players can equip the best armour at a lower XP level or do what they have done and have people moan. The line was going to have to be drawn somewhere. I mean did people expect to buy vanilla Destiny and no DLC but still have access to the max level and all legendary gear even year 10 of Destiny. Where do you draw the line - Year 2?3?5?.

Edit: It is really only the NF's that have been taken away. Players can't do herioc strikes but they were always going to increase and even if they could, they drop legendary marks which can't be spent on armour as can't equip it. I think the best way to have done this would be increase all levels of everything as they have except have a 2 level NF - do it at level 32 but be limtied to year 1 drops or do it at level 40 for year 2 drops.

Well Pigtails is over 260 light now (Good ole 290 Truth :p).

Did my first legendary strike last night...

Taniks was.... interesting...

Mid_gen - you weren't kidding when you said it felt harder than the old Nightfall! (The modifier which makes more enemies appear was a bloody nightmare at the Tank; 6 sodding Melee Vandals at once!)

Playing more today so hopefully I will be ready for the Raid. :)

Bluey and Moody are around the 240 light mark. Need more Blues / legendaries.

One thing to ensure is when you are putting in engrams make sure you are set to the highest light level possible. Armour and weapons decode based on your current light level.

I keep seeing this but RNGesus hates me :( all my engrams last night were decoding to equal values or increasing tiny amounts like from 250 to 254. Hence my massive gain of 7 light :D My chance of even looking at the raid this week is down to what Xur is going to sell in Destiny 2.0. A lucky drop and something decent from Xur and I might be close to raid ready. In reality though I question whether best to leave the raid until next week sometime so people are more suitably levelled and can give the raid a proper go rather than dying every 3.6 seconds due to being underlevelled.

Sounds like destiny isn't for you. Its a gear based MMO / RPG / FPS hybrid heavily centred around replaying content for better drops.

End game is all about the Raids. These are 6 man activities and until your gear gets much higher most will need a full team of 6 to complete. There's plenty of challenge in the raids. Bungie lost their way a bit with Prison of Elders and Crotas end (the "Raid" content of the last 2 expansions") but the "kingsfall" raid in Taken King is bigger than even the vault of Glass - something the destiny community reverses as one of the best experiences in the game.

In addition to raids there are also the new Heroic Strike playlist and the Court of Oryx. Plus you've got the challenges of exploring and finding everything in the dreadnaught. Its not a challenge if you do what most do and just read it all on reddit. But if you want the challenge - there's tons to figure out and explore.

What kept me playing WoW was the raids. Weekly raid reset and the bosses were tough to kill. You would very very rarely kill on 1st try, often multiple resets and sometimes multiple weeks of trying. Is that not the case in Destiny raids?

I was running green gauntlets on Pigtails for ages as I was not getting any gauntlets drop that were better than 200 light. Every engram that dropped was either not gauntlets or turned into motes / Strange coins when it was... :(

Finally got some better ones and now have 275 defense ones.

Need a better secondary sniper to get me over 270.

I am completely flexible Raid wise. :)

As I mentioned it is more Destiny raid (singular) as you can do the older ones but they are redundant as they only drop old lower levelled gear. Hopefully Bungie do something at some point in the future to make the old raids relevant again.

That is the case for when the raids first come out. I don't know what Crota raid but the very first fireteam of 6 to complete Vault of Glass in vanilla was something like 16 hours and 1500 deaths. I think it took me until my third or fourth raid until I completed it as we kept wiping on the last boss. Once you start getting weapon and armour drops, know the tactics and what is going on better it does get easier. Though even now on some sections, if one or two people die it is a struggle for the 4 to carry on so usually ends in a wipe.

Cool. I know you and midgen are pretty high level (though midgen can't make it this weekend) I don't know about everyone else that posted for the 'blind' raid the other week.

Edit: Judging by how dead the Raid PvP thread is I assume not many people are raid ready :D

Oh it was with the vault of glass.

It only became mundane and easy once people leveled well past the level 26 / 30 difficulties. (max rank is now 40 for example)

Kingsfall will be exactly like that again, with most not having the gear to take it on when it unlocks. I found my first ever raid on destinytracker. 4 hours we spent at it, with many many wipes in that time, and we didn't finish it. We had to give up at about 1am and come back and finish from the checkpoint the next day.

Kingsfall raid that's out tomorrow promises to be just like this. Bungie have promised kingsfall is even bigger and harder than vault of glass. Can't wait.

Maybe consider buying a piece of gear if you haven't already done, in theory having unbalanced light levels in gear will make it easier to level up as there's a higher chance you will gain a piece of gear for one of your lower light level slots that's a worthwhile upgrade. I bought a titan helmet and although I completely forgot about rebuying old exotics i'm actually not bothered. It has some exceptional PvE perks (shield regen on orb pickup and increased super from enemy kills) which are probably the best available.

I don't really care about spending marks any more as I know I can always get more from running heroic strikes, assuming you always get a legendary drop. When I get my first character up to 280 or so then I can start spending all my marks on the other characters I haven't levelled up yet.

As soon as I can I will but currently I don't have enough legendary marks yet. I have 50ish so will run the daily pvp tonight for some more but I am not high enough to do the weekly herioc to earn more.

Edit: Actually apart from the Daily PvP and the Herioc, is there another way to earn marks? If so, I might be able to buy a piece of armour tonight.

Lots of marks available from quests....check which ones have marks as rewards, usually get 25 from em.

Apart from that I've got quite a few from dismantling gear.

Quick question. Will xur keep taking strange coins? They seem to drop from everything in TTK so I have 75 of them already. In the old game that would have been a lot but I assume everything is going to cost a lot more now?

I don't think Bungie have officially stated anything but that's the impression I got also.

Rahool is loving me today. Got the crucible pulse rifle from a blue earlier, and just had another blue turn into the legendary crucible sniper Tao Hua Yan. Not bad roll either, ambush scope, firefly. Low impact though. I have got a 1000-yard stare with ambush, partial refund, mulligan which is going to be pretty nice in trials.

It's been a funny story with me when it comes to engrams. My brother seems to have legendary engrams coming out of his ears and thus has more marks than me but in the few legendary engrams I've had, two of them have turned into exotics. I have Ruin Wings and The Taikonaut.

No exotics for me at all yet. Although I did just unlock the exotic sword quest. You have to fully upgrade your legendary sword and infuse it to 280, then unlock another perk, then a new quest line starts at shaxx.

Pretty hard as nails quest line tbh, going to need some help next week! Getting sword kills in crucible will not be fun.

I got my first exotic this morning(starfire protocol) which always felt a bit useless to me but I wont complain as it will bump my warlocks light up a fair bit. I knew it was only a matter of time until I got an exotic as I have been swimming in engrams the past few days.

I hope not all of the steps for the exotic sword require specific crucible actions as they are my least favourite quests...

Anyone completed the Defender or Striker quests for the Titan? I held off on them with all the confusion across forums about it, I completed the Defender quest yesterday and I got my mark but no emblem. Luke Smith mentioned there would be additional steps to do once TTK dropped but I didn't receive anything extra from Zavala? It just ended the quest.

Seems to be a little debate on the 'fairness' of the TTK and the fact it kinda ends the vanilla game by not allowing the player to progress past a certain lvl, 34 is it?

My take is that if you buy DLC you want to have access to a great deal more content than those sticking to the vanilla version but I do appreciate the game and DLC so far at market value is around £120 which some people just can't afford and it does seem a little unfair that people will be missing out on a game they probably love because of an almost subscription based concept.

My question would be that if you, like me, are buying the DLC when it comes out and ploughing several hours into it, would you be ****** off if next year, Bungie gave all the previous DLC, DB, HoW, TTK to the vanilla players for free and did this yearly? I think I would be a little annoyed that I had paid for the new content on pre-order/release but that would be my decision to do so and I wouldn't begrudge Bungie for doing it provided the day one people maintained some form of 'supremacy' over the vanilla players.
