Roady - which way round do you wear the knee/arm warmers (do you have castelli both?)
Seam is ok on arms but should it be round the back of knees and you just get used to it?

Fit/size is spot on, seam isn't uncomfortable, just noticeable. :)

They should be at the back or slightly at the side (the logo position should give it away), but i had real issues with these when i first got mine. Fine on short rides, but on long rides the seam and particularly where the label was positioned rubbed really badly (even with the actual label itself having been cut away). It made a real mess of the skin behind/to the side of my knee and as well as ending up v painful it would actually make the area bleed if i rode long enough with them. Very stupid design flaw on them.

What I've found over time is that the material around that area has softened a bit and the issue has gone away. One thing you could do is put some Tenacious Tape on the area which might solve it.

EDIT: This was on the Castelli nanoflex btw. I believe Sportful No Rain are identical design.

I'm falling out of love with the v brakes on mine. The blocks have to be so close to the rims that they squeak. I'm mulling over the idea of selling it and picking up a second hand genesis flyer.

I'm ok-ish with the brakes tbh! far worse than canti's but the fact that I have a canti break up front with my carbon fork and mini-v up the back does help! I rarely use the rear brake and normally stop with front only :) but yeah, v-brakes, in my opinion with road levers SUCK.

Ouch! Glad I've not suffered as badly as you! Some annoying things about Castelli surrounding their labels... They're aways (in my experience) HUGE and although some ok thoughts on placement (like in bib shorts off to 1 side) they are still not made of a 'nice' material! Even cheaper brands either use better material or even better print the instructions on the garment rather than using a label (awesome IMO)! The other REALLY annoying thing about Castelli labels (other brands do this too) is the label stitched outside of the seam but using the same stitching, so you can't even cut the stitching to remove it as you'll ruin the seam on the garment! I mean WTF! Not even Primark do that on £2.99 tshirts! So whatever you do you're left with the remnants of part of the label in your seam made of not very good material...

But Nuns on the Run taught me about seams.

I'm sure Roady had Castelli ones, oh well :)

Lol @notr!

Mine are Sportful NoRain, sorry! Believe they are the same design/sizes though.

Really? :(
My old MTBs had brilliant vbrakes and all the CX bikes i have ridden with canti brakes were terrible. I'm in the process of building up a cx bike for winter and I got some drop-bar specific vbrakes for it.

On the topic of my winter bike, I'm really struggling to find a mech hanger for it. :(
It's quite an old frame, maybe 2003ish. It's branded "Terry Dolan" (from before the "Dolan" brand) and doesnt have any specific frame name.
This is what the dropout looks like:

Anybody got any ideas?

I think I might have to make one myself. I have a chunk of aluminum big enough so i'll try and cut it to shape.

@touch I'm sure I've come across a site that stocks all manner of hangers and can make them based on a few measurements. I'll see if it's in my history at home tonight.

Removed battery etc? Have you updated it (plugged into PC)?

The 3hr 24m is the time left to record at the current quality on the remaining available storage space.

Glad to hear it was something simple!

Seems to be charged up now and I managed to record a quick 30 second video before I left this morning. Think I'll be mountain biking tomorrow so might just give it a test there!

Nice weather tomorrow morning.
Club ride is 26 miles. I want to do more.
I've been invited to go on someone else's club ride :) That's about 50 miles or more but down in Leeds, and I have to travel in the opposite direction to Leeds from where I am to get my bike, and given the amount of sleep I haven't had this week I am not convinced I'll be able to get up early enough to make the start time.

However, I've just decided to do one of the routes for the Ay Up Yorkshire wiggle sportif thing. Standard or Epic - not sure yet. Epic will be about 30 miles further than I've ever done before with another 2000 ft of climbing, over the standard.

I am wondering if I should attempt the standard one from home, which would add 16 miles total onto the route... but I'll have to ride that solo, which is fine... but I like social rides now.

Hmmm.

yes, from my POV they're far worse, not only are they harder to adjust they also miss a lot of the feel that canti's have and they're very "rubbery in that sense"

it pretty much goes -;

no braking -> full lock

which is not ideal for commuting :) so what I did with mine is leave the pads far-ish away from the rim and only use it as a "support" brake while 95% of the job is done by the front brake.

problem is that with drop bar levers, there's very little cable move and that means that you need to have your pads SUPER close to the rim, like Von mentioned.

with v-brake levers(flat bar) you've got way more cable to play with so you can keep the pads further and have more modulation in that sense.

I'd say give it a go, but i don't like them and I've looked around for replacement but there's not much you can get when it comes to mini-v's

I did the Standard one in August and whilst the first half of the route was great, the last 15 miles or so was really, really boring. Might still be a better bet than trekking all the way down to Leeds tho :p

But I'd rather do that. I haven't even looked at the route in full... 15 miles of boring = 23 miles of boring for me to get home. I think I shall just get up early :)

Is there a route available for your ride?

I have my own stockings as my beefy thighs make hers too small. But they're fishnets and I forget where the seam is. But Nuns on the Run taught me about seams.

Hmm I was wearing one of them round my neck, like a Buff. I'm silly.

Have you cut the labels off, this helped immensely, but they weren't comfortable for the first few rides until the seams seemed to round off a bit, so to speak.

Haven't yet, just in case I needed to return them.

Glad to hear it seems ok! Have you had the handlebar mount? Should be with you! :)

Rounding them and cutting them as close as I could (just be very careful of the stitching!) made a big difference to me. I generally cut any labels which annoy me (almost everything) and have even been known to break out the sewing kit on occasion after a cut goes wrong! Wouldn't like to attempt to restitch a warmer though, would imagine with the stretch they're very difficult to get right!

Popped to the LBS this lunchtime, grabbed myself a new rear mech hanger (£10) with some extra screws (free!) along with a 'wavvy washeur' (£1) to replace the one I lost last night. Screws and washer are not black (like my originals) but can't complain too much! Great service (+ bit of a discount) as usual from Climb on Bikes

My InRide just arrived. Sadly that means I'll have to do an FTP test soon, noooooo.

I'll probably hold off until the start of October though so I can resume my TR account at the beginning of the month (it really annoys me having regular payments coming out in the middle of the month /ocd4lyfe).

edit: And my Virb has also just arrived. Shame I don't have my SD card yet.

Does the InRide do Ant+ or is it just Bluetooth? I've got such an annoying mix of incompatible equipment at the moment. I've got Ant+ HR/Speed/Cadence sensors that will only talk to my Garmin 500 and then I've got separate ones that only use Bluetooth that I use for TR. I suppose I could get an Ant+ dongle and run TR through my Macbook instead of my iPad but if the InRide is bluetooth only then that would be pointless as well!

Edit: Ok, looks like it's bluetooth only. Think I'm just going to swap all my recording devices to bluetooth over the winter and just not capture data with my Garmin on the odd occasion that I do venture outside. Or maybe spend £50 on *another* speed/cadence sensor that does both bluetooth/ANT+ so that I'm not constantly swapping.
