The labour Leader thread...

I think you'll find that few people actually gave a **** about tuition fees and even fewer actual voters cared.

Those that did mostly voted Lib Dem in 2010 and didn't vote Lib Dem in 2015. But that wasn't the problem: the problem was that abolishing Tuition Fees, or at the very least opposing any rise, was seen as a core Lib Dem policy so when they cheerfully threw that under the bus and tripled them the public viewed that has having proved themselves to be untrustworthy* and that very much set the narrative for the rest of their term.

* - and, as we now know, they were right to do so. Clegg had the option of avoiding the tuition fees rise and didn't take it.

A large section of the electorate doesn't find the Tories appealing. A large portion of that section doesn't find Jeremy Corbyn appealing.

This I 100% agree with... faced between the choose of a slightly centre right Tory government or a very left of centre Corbyn government I will vote Tory all day long..

2015 was the first time I voted Tory purely on the basis that I didn't want to end up with a Labour / SNP coalition.. previously I have voted Labour when they have been more sensible (Blair) and otherwise Lib-dem.. An actual real alternative with sound economic policy, sensible social policy not held over the barrel by the unions with a pro-European flavour would get my vote every time.

Will be interesting to see how much of the financial backing Labour losses from business with Corbyn at the helm.

You're not going to be offered that choice though. The Tory's are not "slightly centre right", they're not even "centre right" - they're straightforwardly right wing.

Not under Cameron they aren't. The current Conservative party is a right of centre (and not even very right) party. There are members of the party who might be considered right-wing, but certainly not the party as it currently stands.

The general consensus is that they are at least as right wing as Thatcher's government. Blair was centre-right, current government is further right than New Labour.

I think that's the position of a lot of people. The type of people who supported New Labour aren't necessarily the type of people who will support Corbyn, and they are likely reluctant to support the Tories. There is potential for a better alternative to be offered.

The fear of a Labour/SNP coalition is, I suspect, largely the reason why the polls were so wrong. The people in charge of the Tory campaign this year were very shrewd - it almost appeared lazy and nonchalant. In reality, I think they new the power that the Labour/SNP coalition bogeyman held. I'm not sure how Labour, the Lib Dems and others deal with that.

If most people in the UK are right leaning then what is the point of any leftist party. Surely any left leaning parties should not bother wasting time and money trying to win an election.

The willingness of the UK electorate to listen and be duped by political media bias and perspective is nothing short of frightening. I feel pity for anyone living in the modern world who doesn't support progressive politics, socialism, welfare and humanity. It's sickening thinking how many are prepared to drop moral perspective and responsibility in exchange for ignorance and greed. God forbid what might happen if things are any different - there's no way this could be positive or for the greater good. Lets rely on the fear of change in people's minds to keep the status quo..

Seriously what an embarrassment the UK is.

And they're further Left than the nearest thing America has to a Left, the Democrats :p

Don't forget your self flagellation whip and hair shirt now.

How very self righteous of you.

What's the incentive to succeed?

Why should people receive benefits if they haven't put in?

Why should people foot the bill for frankly failures of the state? (disabled, kids, elderly are not in involved in this)

If you have started and ran up a successful company, you have done well for yourself. I hate this "moral high ground" people like you shove onto people who are successful, it stinks of jealousy and lack of determination to succeed.

Wait, you feel pity for people who don't share your views on politics, socialism, welfare and humanity?
That's not what you mean surely.

Lol arguing over 1% of the welfare budget haha, typical tory fan boy! Happy for banks and corps to get away with massive amount tax dodging, but cries at the 1% of the welfare budget who claim JSA, but then again all channel 5 shows are people who are taking the **** on JSA/ESA who dont represent the REAL people who claim the benefit. ..... The rest are either pensioners, the sick who cant work or WORKING PEOPLE supported by top ups!

Pathetic….. And you lot wonder why we have voted Corbyn in! Personally cant wait for the next 2-5 years what ever he gets, looking forward to seeing people squirm with panic about someone sticking up for people from the bottom up, not top down!

So many people i know have said, they'll vote for Corbyn and they haven't voted before! 17million people didn't vote (as said on QT)... Cant wait! Win or lose.

+1.
I'd just like to see what these same Tory guys say if/when they lose their own well paid job. They seem to live in some world where everyone sits at a desk getting paid over 50K salary, etc.

The real world is not like that. All those supermarkets and coffee shops you visit have people working there that get paid the minimum wage (less than 16K per year) Those people depend on top-ups to make ends meet. Why do the rich, well off toffs think they will be on the gravy train for ever? Anyone could easily become ill or lose their job and be standing in a queue at the local job centre.

The majority of people want to work and earn a living but it's not their fault if multi-billion pound corporations don't want to pay more than the minimum wage is it?

Tory fan boy hahaha , Far from it .

And who said JSA ? Welfare as a whole is completely out of control .

I'm actually a fan of Corbyn he's got his views and sticks to it , not the sit on the fence politician . Him and Farage do well with public because of that reason ( Other sides of spectrum mind ! )

I ain't worried one bit by Corbyn , he and his views will never see power in this country and for that I'm glad .

How am i meant to keep my grass cut without people at the bottom doing it ?
