need to find out whats the average price of clothes in a males wardrob

I keep stuff forever, or until it falls apart. Sometimes even then... I have a pair of jeans and several shirts I owned in my late teens which are in good condition and still fit, knocking on 32 now. Of my clothes, stuff that I actually wear with any regularity, probably about £700 (finger in air).

Just...why? Why could you possibly need to know this?

contents insurance. A lot of people especially if you are a couple with kids vastly under insure their clothes and never realise it. When your policy says something like £3k or £5k you think, yeah thats more than enough.

Only when you have had a fire and lost it all do you realise if you are lucky you wont ahve enough money to replace everything you had or if you are unlucky, the insurance company will say you were under insured and hence the whole claim will be settled pro rata so you only get two thirds of everything.

Patrick Bateman and Timothy Bryce sit together in the opening scene, both in their naturally suited state. Bateman's ensemble is good, but Bryce's wins out for its less conservative pairing of a taupe suit, white shirt and blue, red and gold stripe tie. Note the arch on his tie, it is one of Bryce's signatures -- that and his coke and steroid habits.

That's great but as can be seen from this thread the values vary wildly so an average will do him no good for that. What if he's a top statistical outlier? Or way below average?

True and this thread proves it with a rang of £100 to £3000 for one person so far.

Only way to be sure is add them up yourself.

My old boss had to do this for his insurance and wanted me to help (told him no)

His final total for him, his wife and two kids was £47k in clothes alone!

I will probably get flamed but here goes ......

I have 3 wardrobes, as I keep my clothes ordered by purpose of use:

7 business suits (assume £1,200 each) = £8,400
2 casual suits (for none work purposes) = £1,800
20 business shirts = £2,200
10 casual long sleeve shirts = £1,200
12 casual short sleeve shirts = £960
18 Polo shirts (t-shirts) = £1,440
12 pairs of jeans = £1,080
Knitwear = £2,200
Sportswear = £1,500
Footwear (business, casual, sports) = £1,300

This excludes; watches, cufflinks, ties, spectacles, belts and wallets

I wear £400 boots, and honest to god nothing has ever been more worthwhile.. I can walk for 20 miles with them, or walk anywhere, and my feet have never ever been so comfortable or 'feeling just right'... But everything else is cheap crap, as it all feels the same on my body apart from the feet.

Can't put a price on good (performance/functional) footwear IMO.

See even with that small quantity you are above the average. It amazes me that some people are claiming under £600 here.

I didn't think I was "that" extravagant :S but starting to think otherwise.

Must be a typo, I think you could buy the Turin shroud for those prices.

Mine adds up:
T shirts - 10 off = £300
Jeans - 4 pairs = £150
Suit - 1 off = £280
Slacks - 2 pairs = £80
Sweaters/hoodies/jumpers - 7 off = £350
Coats - 2 off = £200
sweat pants/shorts = £250
Shirts = 5 off = £250
Around £1850 not including shoes/trainers, belts, ties etc...

If you was to count the worth of the items I wear regularly it would be more like £300.
I could throw 7/10ths of my stuff away and not notice tbh.

539 Ugandan dollar!

Personally

I have 2 200 pound pairs of sunglasses
A 300 pound coat
And a pair of holey 90s tracky bottoms.
And that's the lot

Let's say I'm pretty popular with the ladies.

Looking through your list I think I massively under-estimated how much mine is :S

2 business suits = ~£1,200
1 casual suit = ~£200-300
~10 formal shirts = £500 (even for every day attire I tend to wear a fairly smart shirt)
~10 t-shirts (t-shirts) = £400
9 pairs of jeans = £1000-1100
Knitwear = £500
Outerwear (leather jackets, winter parka, etc.) = ~£1000
Footwear (business, casual, sports) = £1,100

depends on the man, surely?

Nothing in my wardrobe is less than £40...

(awaits snobbery flames!)

Nothing in my wardrobe is more than £40. Except possibly my diamond studded mankini (boy do those studs chafe).

Most is ~£20, or even less.

The most expensive items are not fashion items but walking/hiking stuff. Even that I mostly buy on sale.
