Decided on Friday to switch to decaf coffee for a while to see the effects of giving up caffeine (also includes fizzy drinks). I've been a coffee drinker for around 20 years, and usually have 4-5 cups a day. Not as bad as some people I know.

anyway, today is day 3

The weekend has been awful. Dreadful headaches, feeling sick, not being able to focus, feeling tired. I woke up this morning at 4am wide awake after having some very strange dreams (hardly ever dream). The car park was very quiet this morning when I arrived :D

so....anyone ever done it?

Reading on various forums, I'm actually wondering if there is any actual health benefits, but I like to think I can overcome a so called addiction if needed

Working in IT with zero caffeine isn't going to be pretty. Luckily the last major project I worked on (required a lot of coding) has finished, so hopefully I don't need my brain for a while lol

i gave up a while back (2 months) and still not really sure what the benefits are but its quite easy now, though i do miss the occasional coffee

Hmmm, to be honest I always find keeping occupied is the best option.

It took me a while to get my caffeine intake down, without any headaches etc... :)

Just got to keep at it really mate.

I like the idea of it until I wake up for work or have a hangover...

Try red bush tea (rooibos), it has a lot of health benefits and caffeine free. I always have a couple per day to limit my caffeine intake

I found that when I gave up caffeine I didn't get periods of tiredness throughout the day , I felt even better again when I reduced the amount of sugar or fast carbs I ate

Do they make you feel better? I am looking for something with an uplift effect (Without caffeine) for in the morning at work, as I feel dead in the morning (Like now really!)

so you're looking to replace one stimulant with another?

meth?

I could never give it up.

Coffee and cigarettes were the only things getting me through the day, now I have given up smoking coffee is my life blood.

I have to say, this morning I'm looking at building a new web farm in Azure so really struggling without caffeine. My heads not clear

Gonna struggle through I think

I stopped drinking coffee for a few weeks earlier this year as I was suffering from vertigo and coffee would make it worse.

I went back to drinking coffee as soon as I was able to. I didn't feel fantastic being caffeine free, I didn't feel any different, I just missed coffee!

I done it about 6 years ago from 7-8 cups a day to nothing. I was a wreck for about a month but afterward felt better for it.

I have started drinking it again but just for enjoyment as opposed to a requirement to being awake, I probably have a cup or two a week now.

Good luck! It's a horrid addiction to break.

Good luck to you. I have contemplated it as I've started having cravings now after a while and I don't like that.

I had an IT coffee addiction (5-9 cups a day) which I brought down to 1-2 cups. Lots of water drunk along the way and it was quite "painless".
