*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

In case anyone doesn't realise (I didn't until the weekend) you can use motes of light within your inventory screen to add XP to your equipped gear.

A year 2 Suros dropped for me and I used about 40 motes to unlock every perk except the last one that I didn't want to use.

If you use a weapon telemetry first you only need around 15-20 motes to max the whole thing out. If you have any Focused Light consumables you only need around 12 or so.

Im a bit lost in Destiny.

I am now level 28. I have only ever played the story\patrol missions and MP. Not played any strikes\raids.

Is there any website or info that anyone can share on what to do in the game at my level? It is now a case of playing strikes etc and getting better gear?

I just came back to Destiny when Taken King launched, despite not having the expansion, I did have the season pass for the first two expansions so I am playing their story missions.

Just looking for a point in the right direction ;)

Cheers

There isn't any website guide that I know, especially since everything changed with the Taken King release.

If you're level 28 I imagine you've finished the vanilla story and maybe a DLC or two, but not the Taken King storyline (I think you'd need to be level 35 or so to finish it easily). I'd recommend doing things like the various Strikes and remaining story missions, as well as completing each bounty every day. You should level up quite quickly that way.

When you hit level 40, the "grind" then turns into getting the highest light level you can. I'd say the best way to do this would be the Court of Oryx, which you can only access after beating the Taken King storyline and opening up the patrols on the Dreadnaught. Get a few friends and head to the Court, and spend a couple of hours there. You'll end up with an absolute boat load of engrams. Head back to the Cryptarch, and open them up one at a time. This part is important as the level of the item you decrypt is based on your light level, so doing one at a time gives you a chance to equip anything that comes out higher than your current gear. You'll find you can increase your light level really quickly this way.

are you playing the taken king having given up on destiny before ?

If so, just play the taken king story. In the taken king there is loads more to do in the form of quests. As you play the story you will unlock these as you go. I've currently got 12 on the go having completed quite a few already.

These quests will get you into trying patrol mode, trying strikes, playing all the crucible game modes etc..

Its now much simpler. You can't be short of things to do in The Taken King.

Thanks, the crucible "rift" one is there, the others are greyed out so probably need to be higher level to open them up?
You need to be within 30 light of the recommended level to open them up. As I recall, that's 210 light needed for the Daily Heroic and the Vanguard Strike Playlist (240 recommended), 230 for the Heroic Strike Playlist (260 recommended), and 250 for the Nightfall Playlist (280 recommended). I would however recommend being as close as possible to the recommended level, otherwise you will really struggle at times.

we dragged a 230 through a heroic the other day and it wasn't nice.

if it says a recommended level you want to be at least 10 within it any more and your just a spare wheel.

Ok makes sense! Im only level 31 at the moment, light about 160 i think! So should i just keep playing through the taken king story for now?

yup.

The game will start giving you better gear as you progress. Top tip is to equip any item with a higher light level, no matter how good / poor it is.

Upping your light level means future engrams decode with a higher light level. You can then use these high level blues to infuze your legendaries and bring them higher in attack / defense rating.

Ok thats good to know! Am i correct in thinking as a hunter i need int and dis over strength?

Higher INT = reduced super cooldown
Higher DIS = reduced grenade cooldown
Higher STR = reduced melee cooldown

Depends how you want to have your character set up. High INT and DIS is usually favoured though unless you're going for a melee specific build (defender orb machine/hunter throwing knives or something).

You have a bit of flexibility with the switchable perks on armour now as well.

So decided to try the draksis exotic cheesefest, 10 3 of coins used and got a helmet for a warlock which was sharded as I don't have a warlock character. Also got the suros regime year 2 version, telesto which I haven't used yet and finally the zhalo supercell which is freaking nuts lol...really enjoying that gun and if u get enough enemies to group together, it starts arcing out and taking them out...good fun that gun is :p

super cell is the new fatebringer. it wrecks in pve.

as for sharding a warlock exotic helmet. you could have used it to infuse something surely?

so you just wasted it.

Why shard the helmet? You should have kept it to infuse one of your legendary helmets.

And you got 4 engrams from 10 coins? Lucky boy, most people only get 1 or 2 engrams for that many.

I could easily drag a low level through a heroic daily mission, but I think the heroic strikes would be a struggle for sure, even with 2 of us being 290+.

yeah was a strike.

we wiped quite a few times on the bosses but we did it in the end.

was the 2 brothers strike. we got up to the end just the 2 of us. then had to get a third join on the bosses to finish it.
