Buyers Ignorance?

Was it a USB or twin 3.5mm plug version?

Twin 3.5mm with single jack connector/adaptor. If it was USB I'd have advertised it as the USB edition.

As aforementioned, tried it on my mates PS4 and it works fine.

Definitely not bothering with eBay after this. What ****** me off is people who are too lazy and ignorant to buy something without doing initial background research, let alone sending me a question about it.

The twin 3.5mm jack version should come with a 4 pole TRRS 2 into 1 converter that attaches to the two 3.5mm jacks and plugs straight into the pad. Even surround sound headsets will work this way but in stereo mode only.

Sounds to me like your buyer does not know how to use his PS4.

On a side note, any idea where I can get hold one of those adapters? I have this headset and would love to use it with my PS4.

And no, i didn't recently buy one off Ebay :P

The method is putting the male jack into the female one on the control. It's really hard so I'm going to make a YouTube video to prove it functions. It is using no modification to get it working therefore it isn't faulty and works as suggested.

Also, the buyer needs to get clued up tbh. Asked a friend about this, his response:

if you have to google a special trick to get something to work then it doesn't really work does it?

he's bought something, plugged it in and it does indeed appear to be faulty - ergo he is returning it

did you mention on your advert that it is a bit dodgy, doesn't actually work first time and you need to look at a youtube video to learn a trick to get it to work? I'm guessing you didn't and given that the buyer wasn't initially aware of that then perhaps he'd like to return it. I really don't see the issue here.

You sold something that doesn't work unless you fiddle about with it, you're going to have to take a small hit and sell it again not in new condition and perhaps advertise the fact it doesn't work unless you faff about with it

All depends if he advertised it as specifically for a PS4 surely? Potentially the buyer bought a product that wasn't fit for HIS purposes, but functions fine in other circumstances, ie as a headset for a PC. Really not sure how you can put that on the seller?

Edit: You also seem to have missed the sarcasm in the OP's post, inserting the male jack into the female jack is what you do when you plug in any set of headphones ever.

Basically if you listed the item as being compatible with a PS4 then he is entitled to a refund.

If not then tell him its his problem.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Anyway, if what he has sold the buyer is what I think he has sold the buyer, then either:

A) Its is brand new and faulty out of the box.
B) Buyer does not know how to properly use his hardware.

Whilst A is possible, I think B is more likely, particularly as that headset comes with the required 2into1 TRRS cable that the PS4 requires. The user just needs to make sure he has his sound settings correct on his PS4 (he would need to do this with any headset).

he seems to be suggesting here that it isn't that straightforward and he had to google for a method to do it:

(Fast I know right) Just tested on my friend's PS4 and got the mic working perfectly fine, it just takes a method of slowly putting the jack in... And it took my friend all of 30 seconds to google the method. GG. No bending for me.

OP - can you link to the advert - did you mention PS4 on it?

Oh do pipe down.

No, he's sold a perfectly functioning pair of headphones which work in most devices, it just so happens the PS4 is naff like that and doesn't work with these specific headphones apparently.

OP: tell him to try the mic on something else, a PC, laptop, whatever, if it doesn't work then, i'd refund

Buyer will open case.

Will wait 8 days.

Ebay decide you should take item back and pay for postage.

If you don't they step in again and put the cost of postage against your account and give the buyer postage details.

You then will either get a working set of headphones back or a poo in a box.

Buyer is refunded.

are you able to link to the advert?

also you're assuming that because the pair the OP has work then the pair he sold will work too

I'm not assuming anything, it's a pair of headphones! How techincal can they get other than 'plugging them in'.

Do you have a link to the advert?

This is the answer to every stupid eBay thread we get 4 times a week! The mods should ban eBay threads and just make this a sticky for advice

so they can't ever be faulty? You are assuming - you've stated something as fact that you're not in the position to know.

Do you have a link to the advert?

nope, that is the point - how do you know whether PS4 has been mentioned or not?

You sold something that doesn't work unless you fiddle about with it

You are assuming he has sold something that doesn't work without seeing the product or advert.

Clever how it works both ways huh?

Yes, a brand new product can be faulty. However, a pair of headphones are just that, headphones, you shouldn't need to adjust settings on the device in which you need to plug them in to just to make them work - hence why they more than likely work on another device.

Bored of you now, have a nice day.

It's a 'special trick' on a particular device though (and it appears that it's just putting the connector into the normal jack, just a little slower than normal) and that's not necessarily a problem with the headset in question. If the headset is fully functional elsewhere it's the buyer's problem - which it should be anyway and is for everyone in the world except eBay/PP. See the early post in this thread; caveat emptor.

except it doesn't as I've not assumed that, you actually made a statement that they do work - that required an assumption

good, about time you piped down :p

depends on the advert really - has he mentioned that it will work on a PS4 or not?
