How to get a Dealer to drop their price?

lol

Was adamant he'd get 500 quid off or get his deposit back, ends up getting no money off (effectively) and having to go out his way to do the garages job for them.

How to not buy a car kids, pay attention

Came here for the "they won't refund my refundable deposit" post when they wouldn't reduce the price, was left disappointed :(

??

Was listed at £8500.
I will be paying £8300

Over all that's a £200 saving.

They also will be refurbing Two Alloys again correctly, and allowing me to get the Tracking done on their account at kwickfit (good cus they have hunter systems) Not to mention doing a £350 service for me included when I was originally told it wasn't included.

I'm happy with that result to be fair.

£200 for the pair of tyres that should have been on it in the first place - sounds like you paid asking price to me

So where did the £70 come from? On the day, how much did you physically hand over to them?

So in short you've managed to get £100-£130 off the car once you deduct the cost of a new tyre. Not quite the £500 discount or walk away but better than nothing!

Nothing else you have put (service/tracking/alloys) is anything above what would be expected to be correct in the first place.

From my experience of dealers I find what they have done very good.

I have viewed 5 cars in the past two weeks, and each one had issues, and some even went as far to say they wouldn't repair things at all.

But this dealer actually is going out of their way to do things to make me happy, which to be frank is completely new to me. Is it simply because I'm spending more than £3k?

They have been very good all the way through and their warranty seems to cover the stuff i was worried about, Such as the 2.2D Mazda Camchain issue which is 100% covered and I have that in writing.

The Bose Speaker system in the car is unreal!

I think you are getting a hard time here because of historical reasons rather than what you have achieved. Its more about your previous attitude/approach than your current situation.

Sounds like you have had to learn some hard lessons about buying/selling cars but you are getting there. :)

If its the car you want, and you are getting the service you want *AND* you managed to get even a little off the price then you should be happy :)

At that price point you would expect a dealer to sort out any problems, otherwise why else would you be paying more than the equivalent private sale?
Dealer won't be doing any more than they have to, whilst still ensuring there is money in the car.

Warranty won't be worth the paper it's printed on - whether you have it in writing or not.

Why do you believe the warranty won't be worth the paper its written on?

I've now had 3 3rd party warranties and as yet haven't experienced any problem with them:

- A TT specialist put a 3 month warranty on my TT when I bought it which I extended to a year then renewed for a further year. I claimed once in the first year and once in the second year. No quibbles and done at a garage of my choice

- Available Car put a 12 month warranty on my Honda Accord that I extended to 3 years but sold it after 2. Claimed on it twice with no issues.

- Inchcape warranty on my A6 - Ive so far had a over £1k of work done on it in the last 2 years with the last item being done when the car was on nealy 90k miles (EGR valve). I mainly went for the warranty because it had no mileage retrictions meaning I had a warranty on the car right up to doing 110k miles.

Seems to be a mixed bag of experience with Warranty companies.

The one I have with the Mazda is the Car select one. its the same company from what I can tell (from just reading the paperwork).

Why do you believe the warranty won't be worth the paper its written on?

Because the warranties I have been offered in the past, had enough exclusions, asterisks and "wear and tear" clauses, that you would be lucky to claim for anything that actually mattered.

By all accounts Main Dealer warranties (such as Audi and BMW) are pretty good value, especially on the higher end/performance models.

I assume your Inchcape warranty was the platinum one, as the standard one doesn't seem to cover much (and doesn't include the EGR Valve)

I'm not against warranties by any means, however you should double check that a warranty covers what you think it does.

Great advice.
