Dumb, inconsiderate Britain plunges to new depths

They should have simply flipped a coin or played rock paper scissor and the loser has to reverse out... :)

That said the chap couldn't reverse for “reasons unknown” and when he was “guided back” he almost hit a wall  I’m sure you shouldn’t be on the road if you cannot reverse your own car... but anyways. Why was there no police there ? I mean if they really were there for 40mins surely the police should have responded to this ???

There's a small bridge near where I live which is only wide enough for one car really (two could squeeze past each other just but it would be tight)

No signs for right of way but you come down a hill on each side to the bridge and 99% of people are sensible. First person to the bridge has right of way.

Twice now I have met a "local" in his range rover. First time I was a third of the way across the bridge when he didnt stop and just continued on the bridge. I beeped my horn and he leant out of the window and started hurling abusive language about it was his bridge and he had right of way and I should reverse and if I ever meet him again I should do the same!

It's not your right of way if it's already occupied, but we don't know how events played out.
Also, hard to see from Google maps but there's a bend in the road from the give way side, I think you could see traffic coming from the left lane pretty easy.

The normal person would be like, okay yeah he's a bad driver for not giving way but now that I know he's got troubles reversing I'll go ahead and do it and not annoy everyone and be on my merry way.
Old guy may have instigated the event, but she made it much worse, needlessly.

Once I was in a sainsbury's car park which has a bus stop and I pulled in to the main road of the car park (right here), only for a bus to pull out directly in front of me to turn to his right. Which then couldn't complete its turn because I was on his inside in his turning line. The bus driver just sat there waiting for me to reverse. I WAS OUTRAGED. (I mean I reversed my car and let him go past after a few seconds of angry gaze which isn't all that angry looking)

So what happened the second time?

Same thing. He looked furious. I just sat there with my music on loud ignoring him :) I heard him mutter something about ringing the police.

Not concerned unless he really does own the bridge but doubt it since its on a B road.

Dunno if I believe the poor reversing or not, looked a bit "put on" by the elderly guy.
Neither of them demonstrated any sort of defensive driving and instead opted to have some retarded standoff out of principle, wasting their own time just to make a point.

Reminds me of an old friend who rented a flat which had no toilet seat, so complained to the landlord to have one fitted. 2 and a half years later he still didn't have one and absolutely refused to buy one himself because "he was in the right".

Retards the both of them.

From the pictures, he looked to be further through the tunnel that she was so surely he was the one that had right of way? They're both complete cludgemuffins for being so unwilling to see past their own self importance.

Anyone with a sensible head would be courteous enough to let the one that was further through the tunnel past, even if it did involve them having to reverse.

This has been happening in Maidenhead forever sfaik some drivers round here believe they own the road even though it's not their right of way happens in the centre of Bray and at the bridge coming into Bray as well why is it now all of a sudden newsworthy?

very difficult this one as both cars were mercedes

Had one of the cars been a ford or a vauxhall this would obviously not have happened as the prestige car instantly has right of way

Agreed. If one of them had been a VW the other person clearly wouldnt have seen them in the tunnel due to the smog :P

Google Maps shows it better, this is the view when you have to decide whether to 'commit' to the tunnel or not. (The direction the old man was coming from):-

Visibility is not great because of the slight bend and due to the fact we drive on the left.

This is the direction the woman came from:-

I've been through that tunnel hundreds of times and it does happen every so often that someone decides that even thought your 3/4 of the way through, that you should be the one to reverse and they can't wait 5 seconds. The other issue is that at peak times, if you are the one with priority, cars will start flowing through from the other side and you can end up there for ages before someone takes notice of the give way sign.

Seems a bit silly.

If it were me I'd of had two wheels on that path and driven by giving the obligatory hand gesture:rolleyes:

Yeah its definitely a case of the woman is one of those people who thinks that sign means she has total right of way, even if there is already an oncoming car and that they should just reverse back out of her way.

She probably even sped up in order to try to beat the other guy!

Had she just taken her foot off the gas (IE not even braked) he would likley have had enough time to complete the transit and she could have continued without stopping.

My driving instructor taught me there's no legal right of way, other road users have priority depending on the situation and signs but its not there as a "right"

If the sign shows you have priority but there's already a vehicle in the tunnel or entering before you get there then you should keep calm,be considerate and wait, the sign does not give you the right to be an ****

My view is always that in a 50/50 situation the one with priority goes.
If I haven't got priority but will get to the obstacle first then I will enter even if thye may have to slow or stop. ts priority not a definite right to unobstructed travel.

It looks like that bridge would be better to have the priorities flipped from the views given, although its possible there is another hazard they are trying to keep clear close to the side they have given priority.
