Hajj pligrimage crush

Sad isn't it? Just because it's based around something that a lot of people disagree with or do not understand or do not care about it's fine to poke fun.

Poke fun at the Hillsborough disaster or anything local and you're considered scum and heartless.

People like to be offensive with things regarding religion or things that people don't agree with, rather than doing the human thing and feeling sad the the death of hundreds of people.

strange that's what I alluded to - without mentioning Hillsborough - that it seems because it is religion involved it is ok to scorn and poke fun (clearly it is not) - yet it was deleted?

but the only reason it has never happened again is because there are security and safety measures in place.

sadly for these people they are not afforded such measures.

edit: whats with the post deletes? didn't think I'd posted anything untoward or offensive huddy?

Agree. Like I said, lessons were learned here. Does this mean we're fundamentally smarter? Do we care more about our people?
The loss of life shouldn't happen and yet it does, again and again. Despite knowing that these people have still chosen to be there.
Fact is however something should be done to stop these needless deaths but nothing is. This is down to those who attend and to the Saudi authorities.

Not sure what you mean - your post is there? One was deleted which was part of the culling of inappropriate comments.

On the OC'ers GD board? Now that would be a miracle.

Pretty pathetic isn't it? Ah well, just more work for my moderating team to do! ;)

This kind of sad incident can happen when millions of people are in stuck in a crowded area. The place where it happened has been expanded but with the Saudi Government expanding the Grand Mosque to accommodate more people it will probably lead to more such indidents in the future.

Expansion is only going to help if the number of people are limited to current levels. However, it looks like they want to cram more people in in the future.

Inna lillai waina hilai rajiun

In English please.

'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (Arabic: إِنَّا للهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ‎) is a part of a verse from the Qur'an which translates to "we belong to Allah and to him we shall return. The phrase is recited by Muslims when a person experiences a tragedy in life,[2][3] especially upon hearing news that a person has died.[3] The phrase is also recited in situation that involve risk of any sort.'

not sure how it was inappropriate as it was just a re-iteration of my original post - but if it was taken up wrong then I understand, it was not meant to be offensive, simply re-enforcing how we seem to think it is fine to poke fun at religious tragedies. apologies if it came across as offensive or caused offense.

Two million people to attend an event is clearly not safe.

I remember being at Macy's thanksgiving parade a couple of years ago when they have upwards of three million people attending, and that was complete and utter chaos.

Unfortunately you can't have any real crowd control when there's that many people in a small area.

220 people die in a crush on a pilgramage, no sympathy here it seems.
96 people die in a crush at a football match and everyone goes nuts!

I despair.

That article just says stampede and gives absolutely nothing else about reasons or any new safety precautions to help manage millions of people. The Saudi elite seemingly don't care to give any details about anything and don't seem to want to implement solutions.

You quoted an inappropriate comment so it was just part of the cull. It's not a big deal. Don't worry.
