My new ride : BMW Z4 35i

Why does it take "months" from ordering to receive a new car anyway? If I wanted to buy a new car and the salesman said "yes sir it will be ready in 4 months" - I'd walk out.

It takes Audi 3-4 days to actually build a car. What are they doing for the remainder of the time?

Spot on. When I went to order my Huayra, Horacio told me that it was a nine month waiting period. Lost the sale there and then he did.

Building other people's cars.

I agree though, it's unacceptable. OEMs need to get better at dynamically gearing up production based on demand.

Here she is home, just had the driveway finished today as well :)

Found out more surprises today that I didn't know about

Convenient Keyless entry and start
Can open and close roof with keyfob
It has 19 inch wheels which is a bonus for me, forgot to check at the time

A quick question for those with the new BMW handbrake.

I can see myself forgetting to put on the handbrake often as it is one of those silly little switches found in BMW's nowadays. If the car is in locked park mode on the shifter, can it still roll without the electronic handbrake ? I guess it will harm the transmission over time, but of course I will always "try" to remember the handbrake.

Great choice, I've had my 35i for 3 years now and I love it to death. Found something out about the car though recently - if you leave it parked with the handbrake on for 2 weeks be mindful the battery might discharge. No big deal but eh, first car where 2 weeks has been "that point" for me. Not sure if it's because the handbrake is all electric (well it electrically applies the normal brakes to act as a handbrake) or this is just standard affair for the car though.

The handbrake I'm not too sure about sorry as I have a manual but the other thread about electric handbrakes at the moment seems to suggest this won't be a problem. You can quickly check behaviour though, turn the car off with the car in park and handbrake off see if the red light on the handbrake comes on to show if it auto engaged. The light also comes on when you lock/unlock the car for me if you want another check.

Other things to check if you didn't give it a mega go over in the showroom - see if you have heated steering wheel (right hand side of the column, button switch), see if you have the storage addon / pass through to boot through the middle wall (should be a compartment between seats on rear wall with plastic back). If you have cargo net in the passenger footwell you have the extra storage addon but it's a bit pointless.

Thanks mate, useful information.

I have the pass through ski slot and the crappy passenger cargo net. Not checked for heated steering, worth a check :)
