So for instance the rift on crucible, I don't need to be on a winning team in order get marks?? I did the zone control which gave me 10 marks and our team won so wasn't sure if they still get handed out if u lose or win.

Zone control will only award marks on winning as that is the weekly. Same as the PvE weekly, you can get 30 marks total from it. For the crucible daily it doesn't matter if you are the worst player in existence and your team scores 10 points total, you will still get marks

Use them regularly for nightfall and stuff, or just when I have a bit of spare destiny time and fancy a raid or something.

Hit and miss obviously, but destinylfg.net is usually Ok.

You've obviously not tried the Dead Orbit scout rifle or the New Monarchy hand cannon. Both are excellent weapons, especially the scout rifle. It's my favourite weapon so far.
 
Is it really worth grinding Heroic Strikes after the first 3 of the week. I found that just running the Vanguard playlist seem to pay out much the same rewards.

I'm sure I read somewhere if you do 5 heroic strikes in a row you get a nightfall-level reward. I've only managed 4 so far. But I'd rather just use the 3 of coins and play the easier strikes. I've already had 3 primary weapons and 2 special weapons in a couple of hours today.
 
I seem to be stuck at 287 light. All engrams that have dropped over the last few days have been lower light than i currently have :/

Not only that, make sure u have your highest level weapon and armour equipped that way you have a better chance of getting better stuff when u go to the cryptarch to decode your engrams.

Everytime u decode an engram, make sure it isn't higher than what u have...if it is then equip it then move onto the next engram.

well ****e, as a new player i wish i new that. I've been decoding 15-20 engrams without checking them.
 
I know it will be me being dumb but is there no raids to do atm? I can find strike etc, also I have played some crucible but don't get any marks so how do I earn these :s I'm nearly done with all story missions, not started taken king content yet

A few hours after posting this I've somehow jumped to 291! Hopefully high enough to try the raid soon.

Well yeh you have the crota raid and vault of glass raids...get to 290 light and the new raid kings fall opens up. Not many people will be interested in the crota and vault of glass raids now that the new kings fall raid is out.

You really want to get as close as possible to 300 light to do the raid, I'm 295 and it was tough going earlier on today when I was doing it with 5 other players that were around 295 light.
