It wont take long to get your light up, just make sure you equip your top rated equipment when decoding engrams at the cryptarch, if a higher one decodes equip it before decoding another and so on.
 
We managed the kings fall raid from start to finish tonight in 3 hours despite connection issues and waiting for people to rejoin. Pretty chuffed and think the team has it nailed now in terms of mechanics :D

Also, farming sword materials on the moon was horrible. Don't pick the solar sword! haha

I didnt find the farming materials too bad with a helium ghost and nightstalker on (for improved radar to see where they on; alternatively I used the hunter-specific sniper rifle on gunslinger to farm up ability kills whilst looking for materials). But the ability kills was a total bore and I think universally is considered one of the worst grinds ever from Bungie (have to do it three times for all the swords!!).

I tried to make it go quicker by playing through the old quest lines with double tripmines and double throwing knives (that instantly reset on precision kills).
 
Yeah that is weird, I will likely be higher by the time I get into a raid team.

I'm taking it there are chests along the way like VOG?
 
So fresh from our Oryx defeat yesterday, our group set about completing the Raid again tonight.

We did the entire thing from beginning to end and bossed it in 2 hours 45 minutes

Found an amazing looking cloak yesterday, but to my disapointment it's not legendary or high enough light level.

Shame, the Highest Squidder cloak looks absolutely awesome. Tattered black cloak with a straight-lined simplistic image of a squid on? Yes please.

I'd do the same. I'd take one of my 1000 Yard Stares up to 308, buy a load more of the 300 Black Spindles and upgrade all my special weapons to 300, and have a 300 Black Spindle as well. I have exotic shards coming out of my ears, and about 40,000 glimmer sat in the vault, so I can buy a truck load of them. I'd even be tempted to run it a few times to try to get a 310 Spindle on each character.

That sounds like the Titan exclusive gun you get from hitting rank 2 on the Gunsmith and triggering the quest line.

Decent enough but prefer both my Dead Orbit and Vanguard Shotguns (the latter has a perk which gives a chance to return ammo on a kill - triggers often enough to give me a 7 round "mag" every time).
