I'm curious as to what the motives are behind this (not disputing anything, just wondering).

he keeps his cat as an indoor cat because he's worried about it being stolen/hurt/ran over and i think he's getting sick of constantly being called an inhumane monster for it.

We've had three outdoor cats that died of old age/natural causes indoors. They all had to be put to sleep. :(

Nobody has called him an inhumane monster.

What they have done, however, is ask questions of his mindset, logic and decisions for owning an animal as well as the facts on which he based them.

He has decided he wants to dispute the facts/figures he does not agree with and use the ones he does to back up his argument.

One could be forgiven for thinking he is not as comfortable with his decisions as he likes to make out, otherwise he would not be seeking validation with a thread about a subject he claims he is sick of talking about.

Owned 2 Cats so far. First one died of cancer (in her nose) at the age of 16. Second one is alive and doing just fine at 15 years old. Both outdoor cats.

I do have a friend, who doesn't use this forum, whose cat died last week due to drinking antifreeze. Their cat was also an outdoor cat but only 6 years old :(

Owned three cats, all with access to outdoors. Current moggie alive and well, rarely goes beyond the back garden, being a black cat kept in after dark. Previous two cats both PTS at the vet due to old age/chronic disease (at 16 and 14 respectively).

We've had about 25 cats over the years (many are outdoor farm cats), I'd say about 20% of them have been run over.

One of them was young, fit and healthy that I'd rescued and it half lived in the house. :(
Another other was about 22 years old, well past her sell by date, being run over was practically natural causes..

I have an indoor cat with my wife, he ventures out at times, but he's happy sleeping all day.

I was once given a cat to look after, by a mate who emigrated. He returned a few years later and I have no idea as to the current status of the cat, nor how it died if it has indeed expired. To compound the problem he used to keep it indoors but I let it go outdoors. One day it climbed inside my washing machine and **** in there. I wanted to kill it that day, and there wouldn't have been an option for that timely demise.

So much uncertainty here that none of the above seems to be the only option.

Ive had plenty of cats, but they were all indoor cats (not full shut ins, they did go out, sometimes for extended periods) but none died of anything "suspicious" just a long list of things cats die of when they get old.

Not a cat person. Never had one, never will. One neighbourhood cat nearly convinced me to become a (very large) dog owner though. That is to say, owner of a very large dog. This was because it adopted my garden as it's latrine, and I think you need a licence for a bazooka.

Then the cat disappeared. Why, I've no idea. Honest. Maybe the owner moved. Maybe a car got it. Maybe it read my mind and left. Maybe another neighbour ignored the need for a bazooka licence. Or got a very large dog.

TBH, don't know, and don't care, so long as it isn't crapping in my garden, and especially not in my herb garden, which the little .... creature .... did a few times.

Had lots of cats since the age of about 5. That includes rescuing one from a neighbour who CBA to care for it properly.

They all mysteriously disappeared. I can count 7 that were very likely disappeared by a neighbour at one address (where my mum still lives). They were all well cared for, but abducted and given away by the same foul, evil piece of work who had it in for my mum for no other reason that I can tell other than my mum was a single parent. This was over about 20 years.

Foul creature makes my skin crawl when I think of her. There's no proof other than a few unrelated untrustworthy people have all said it was her as she knows someone who runs a local cat rehoming charity. Properly messed with me as a kid when they disappeared.

So, many will be dead by now, but not as a direct result of foul play.
