**** The Official Google Nexus 6P Thread ****

I don't get why they go to all the effort of writing the article, but not make the 5% extra effort to adjust for VAT and make it a fair comparison.

This is what I was thinking. There's probably a 10 or 15pc difference when taxes and suchlike are taken into account. Not parity, but much less of a story.

For the record, I don't defend the differences in price that undoubtedly remain but the picture should at least be a clear one.

Qualcomm say otherwise, so I'd be more inclined to trust their say so on this matter :p

Indeed - tech companies never stretch the truth when promoting their own tech after all! :p
Jesting aside I was always under the impression lithium ion batteries last best when charged slowly and only between 45% and 90% - not to 100%

Not really, Qualcomm's own FAQ states that battery life isn't shortened from fast charging as the battery and ICs are designed with fast charging in mind, and thus the charging rate is "within spec". It's once you charge above spec with higher rates where the life degrades beyond the average MTBF.

That's my point. Charging at 2C (a 3Ah battery at 6A) won't necessarily damage the battery, but it will lower the longevity if done every time instead of at 1C.

Oh yeah the overall charge cycle life will go down with each charge, but it will still be well within spec, as in, you're not going to see a decrease in battery performance 12-24months later by using a QC2.0 charger on a QC2.0 enabled phone as opposed to using a normal charger. That's the whole point.

The ICs have been made with QC in mind, and will efficiently quick charge the battery without affecting the performance as it's still within spec.

To date I have not seen a post showing reproducible negative affects of the technology on battery life.

Q4: Can Quick Charge hurt my smartphone's battery?

A: Quick Charge operates within the design parameters of batteries found in most smartphones. It is just charging the battery the way it is designed to be charged.

Device manufacturers build smartphones with a specific battery that can accept a specific level of charge. The battery size and maximum current of each battery are design decisions made by the manufacturer and can vary from smartphone to smartphone, tablet to tablet and so on.

However, traditional battery charging technology does not come close to the full power requirements of today's large batteries. Quick Charge 2.0 is designed to allow device manufacturers to achieve the full rated capability of the batteries they choose while still meeting the performance and safety standards set by the battery manufacturer.

From: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge/faq

This technology is nothing like those fast chargers of old that charged batteries with brute force (higher currents), those charges do hurt battery life. But that doesn't apply to smartphones anyway as the power IC would only let in the manufacturer specified current anyway.

Carphone Warehouse now selling 32GB 6P for £439.99. Expected delivery 22nd October, which is faster than direct from google.

Not quite sure why it's possible to get it faster from a third party seller?

I can only now see it as a new contract deal or upgrade for a contract on their site. I can't see any were that lists that price you mentioned now. Their is no sim free option

Has anyone else got 'Pre-ordered' status under Order Device History on Google Store, but not received a confirmation email?

I didn't have the email, and just read somewhere that this happened to a guy and he called google, who then said his order was actually pending and needed confirmation, which they could only do once he'd called.

So I just called google, for a 30 minute call most of which I was on hold being passed between departments, and they still can't tell me the status of my order - baffling for such a simple request.

The girl on the phone said it would be another 5 minute hold (at best!) so would I prefer if she emailed me the status, which I said yes to. 2 minutes after hanging up the phone I get an email saying google takes fraud seriously and my account has been suspended. Then 2 more shortly after saying my purchase has been cancelled. I can only hope that this is google cancelling then resubmitting the order, but the best case scenario there is my order goes back in with a later delivery date.

Just when it was looking like google hadn't ****** it up this time

That is sensational customer service!
