Anyone ever been hounded to death by accident claims companies?

We had one phone line at work that cold caller used to phone regularly. So we just started winding them up and wasting their time for lols, keeping them on the line for ages. Some of them used to get really annoyed at us. Eventually they stopped calling though :(

For online forms etc. I NEVER fill in a real phone number any more and unless it's for important stuff I use a masked/temporary email address. It only ever results in unwanted calls.

I've had loads since my car's been up on AutoTrader :( can't wait to get the advert down so they stop calling me. It's a fishing expedition every time. Oh you haven't had an accident in the last couple of years? I thought you had? Argh!

My work phone must have a number that was previously associated with some sort of scally as I do get loads of PPI and accident stuff on that one. I must have added 50 plus numbers to the block list yet still they arrive. I hardly get any on my personal phone but I have had that number for decades and am cautious where I share it.

The last one of these I got, I told them that yes, I was involved in an accident and it was fatal.
I had more to tell the lady, but she hung up on me.

Hehe, this is usually my response as well.

Had an amusing one the other day though:

Them: "Hi, I'm ringing about the accident you had a few weeks ago".
Me: "ok then?"
Them: "Yes, could you tell me a few more details about the accident"
Me: "Surely you know all the details about it since you're phoning me about it?"
Them: "Yes, that's right, so if you could just confirm the details of the accident?"
Me: "Which details do you need?"
Them: "Of the accident"
Me: "The details you already have because if you didn't you wouldn't be phoning me? Tell you what, you tell me the details and I'll confirm if they're correct"
Them: "We don't have any details, have you not had an accident/trip/fall/etc in the last few weeks? Our records show that you have"
Me: "So what details do your records show about the accident?"
Them: "Which accident?"
Me: "The one I had a few weeks ago"
Them: "Yes, could you tell me the details"
Me: "about what?"

Managed to keep him going for about 20 minutes :p

I recently bought a phone and contract for my 11 yr old daughter and gave my number as an alternate contact point. Today I got a call on my number asking for her. Apparently she had an accident recently and is entitled to compensation.

Rarely get them now but tend to try and sound surprised that they found out like it was all a big secret, let them get excited and then drag out a story about my 'accident' when I didn't make it to the loo in the time and wet my pants, do you think I can get compensation for new pants?

She has a 45 minute trip to school each way including a train ride. She needs a phone in case of issues and we need a phone to contact her. Why do you find it amusing?

A *contract* phone at 11?

You'll regret that in the next few years :D

I'd imagine most of us are quite grateful our first mobile phones were PAYG!

Yes that's correct. A contract (sim only, 30 day rolling contract, agreed and limited credit amount). Cheaper than PAYG and as long as under the agreed credit it won't run out.

Considering there is an agreed limit then why is that something I will regret?
