One for Burnsey....

I'd imagine your main issue wouldn't be the police, it's likely to be the heavy set, suited gentleman behind you to whom you now owe £50k.

Unless it was the favourite or had a cool sounding name, in which case good luck getting away before someone shoves a pink, sparkly stiletto heel through your eye.

I don't get to the GG's all that often....

PCSOs do have more powers than "your normal man", just not those of a constable. I won't profess to know all of them though.

PCSOs have the power to waddle around with their hands tucked inside their stab-proofs just like warranted officers of the Crown do, but are otherwise about as useful as a chocolate teapot unless you need to know the latest mead deal offers at Greggs and Subway.

PCSOs aren't constables but they don't need to be as their role is different. It's a shame that so many don't get the respect they deserve for going a job that most of the public are constantly asking for: visible police presence.

I do it on weekdays too ;)

Brave man to do that kind of thing in today's world :(

Do PCSO,s get paid? Is it a full time job? Is it training to go higher up? :)

And hope you tell us all the stories in the future :D I bet you will have a few.

Sorry, I am so nosey  I used to work in a cafe where all the firemen and police came in on a Sussex industrial estate. We used to have a right laugh with them. They even had their works Xmas lunch with us :D top blokes.

I think what the general public want is lots of actual police officers upholding the law and protecting them from wrongdoers.

That's what a lot of the public think they want. Most of them just want someone in high-vis who they can speak to.

You don't need powers of arrest to do that and response officers in vehicles are more effective at dealing with crime but aren't as visible.

I think what the general public want is cretins to get a job, stop breaking the law and pack in being complete losers and causing society grief :(
The world has gone mad

You'll be telling me that single crewed area cars and safer neighbourhood teams offer a better level of service than local beat officers with a TSU on standby next.

Yep it's sad to say, but if no-one in the country committed any criminal offences, we wouldn't even need a police force. Must just be a case of being humans.

You can commit a crime by mistake, unknowingly or be having some unknown pressures in your life that lead you to make rash decisions that lead to criminal actions.

What I mean is, just because someone has committed a crime doesn't automatically make them degenerates of society. Worth noting the police force aren't just there to catch the baddy burglar, they do other things too, lots of other things.

PCSOs get paid and it is usually a full time job. Burnsy on the other hand doesn't get paid and does it part time, but has more powers than a PCSO. Its a rather odd system really? You'd think the powers would align to pay?

Tell a PCSO that according to the Rice vs Connolly case of 1966, you are not under any obligation to answer their questions.
Then laugh your ass off as they suddenly realise they are completely powerless.

not really - Specials have been around for longer than PCSOs

if you want a full time constable then you're going to have to pay for one - though to be fair they ought to really pay the part time ones - tis crazy that they're volunteers, some in London even specialise and bring with them skills from their civilian jobs. Might be better for the police if they made more use of that sort of thing in the same way the Army Reserves does at times.

I assume at least some of the powers are:

1) Allowed to dress and behave as a police officer without being charged with impersonation
2) Allowed to make an arrest which is not classed as a citizen's arrest
3) Is treated as a police officer if assaulted or attacked by a member of the public
4) Access to police communications
5) May carry certain proscribed items with are otherwise banned as offensive weapons/firearms (tazer?)
