Cheated out of redunancy

Wow, what industry are you in?

If my company did that i would be fearing for my job or their margins xD

Public sector, Civil Service, at the minute, so job security is pretty good fortunately! It does seem like they do like to have a good clear out every year though.
a lot of people theorise it's to get out the 'old guard' who are on the top of the legacy pay brackets (and probably very ready to leave anyway) so they can then employ fresh meat in the same positions. They can then start them on the lowest rung of the ladder possible and save some cash :)

Maybe they only offered redundancy to employees who;

turned up on time
don't sleep at work
don't drink at work

;)

It's worth quoting myself to highlight these again.

It's also worth mentioning that the OP works in IT, yet rarely a week goes by without the OP starting a thread asking a quite basic IT question that is clearly for his job.

You even posted a thread about not wanting to go to a certain site "because its loads of work", and tried to see if you could get out of it through a contract loophole.

You should like a terrible employee. You turn up significantly late for long periods and blamed anything other than yourself. You sleep at work (which points to a certain work ethic) and you clearly don't know how to perform your role.

Really? - Username: Ndanadany - sound familar? Thats at least 3 other sites you use!!

How about unltd, another alias?

Nope don't know these? If you would like to try to docs me, please use the trust and send me information over that, i would be happy to see if you can do it. But please don't post those details on the main forum, as that would be linking my real identity to these accounts. thanks.

yet they wanted to keep him in his role but were happy to see the back of a whole bunch of others and when he did resign they had to get a replacement for him...

which perhaps indicates that despite his faults he was doing something useful for them (maybe he was willing to accept lower pay for it if they got rid of people in similar roles in the first round)

To state what should be obvious, redundancy payments are compensation for losing your job under specific circumstances when the employer reduces the workforce. If you want to leave you are free to resign but would normally then have no entitlement to redundancy compensation once you have submitted your resignation. As has already been pointed out your role still exists, so you might not have been accepted for voluntary redundancy this time either.

You sound like a resourceful chap unburdened by a moral compass, so maybe you should take a fresh approach to seeking compensation. Thinking back, could there have been an occasion when your manager may have touched you inappropriately?

Also, can we have some more hot dog analogy posts please?

Thanks mate, appreciate the kind words. I am actually a good employee, although my joke threads on here wouldn't show that. I ask questions like everyone else does right? think that is a low blow to say i ask questions and thus am rubbish at my job.

I think this thread has run its course, I have confirmed what i already thought and that was that I have no chance in getting the redundancy.

i am still unsure why anybody would start a thread about disciplinary action for lateness and go to all the trouble of listing out dates and times late?

And, unless i am missing something, where's the joke?

if it is worth 15 grand then perhaps you should contact a solicitor just to be sure... but the arguments from some of the people on here make little sense

tis normally a free consultation and/or might just be something you can ask via e-mail/telephone

(most importantly you get to update the thread with a more definitive result!)

The reactions of people are funny and makes the thread funny, that is why i made the thread about lateness. That was 5 years ago now and don't even work the same role any more. I didn't even get in trouble for that in the end because i proved that the dates were wrong and a lot of them were due to snow and other things. Anyway that is old story. It just looks bad when you take all those threads and put them together.

so it wasn't a joke and was real? Does the same apply to the other "joke" threads then?

There is a huge difference to posting "joke" eg made up threads to posting truthful threads cause you know they will get a reaction. The point is they are still true in the second scenario.

Next this will be a joke thread to watch the reaction of the forum............

Well no this is a serious thread. Obviously posting about drinking at work and sleeping at work are joking threads.

Is it realy necessary every time i make a thread in future to bring up every other thread i have made and hold them against me?

If you think i am a rubbish employee have fun with that.

I know i have stepped on a few sensitive toes over the years with my opinions and can take people laughing at my expense and i do accept this when i make threads like this. But trying to doc me and bringing up every thread i have made in the past to attack me personally, i think is over stepping it a bit.
