Are tattoos passé yet?

This thread is hilarious.

Such is the nature of high fashion: what is in fashion now is actually terribly unfashionable. It is only what is shunned by the majority that can be viewed as true fashion and that, inevitably, will become accepted too as it trickles down.

Basically, mullets and bell-bottoms will come back in at some point. :)

Exactly and that's my challenge with them. I wore silver red or dead 14 eye DMs with space baby images up the side for a while 25 years ago. I thought they were absolutely fantastic, I'm glad I don't have to wear them now!

That post speaks volumes about your deep seated prejudice and bigotry and nothing about the psychology of tattoo recipients.

We should all fight the natural urge to judge but at the very least if we are going to judge how's about basing it on substance rather than skin deep and utterly irrelevant stuff like this!!

its a post that just keeps on giving... :p

(and actually has some evidence to back it up too :D)

A tattoo which is visible in every day interactions is obviously going to influence peoples opinion of you. We don't exist in a vacuum.

You cannot get 'MURDERER' tattooed on your forehead and then say "Oh that's just for me, it's none of your business" when people take offence. If it was something private and personal, it ought not to be put in the public domain.

I don't get why people have them on the back of their neck or just above the spine and say 'It's just for me' either.
How often do they actually look at it and appreciate it.

True. My missus thought it was a good idea to have Frank Bruno tattooed on the inside of one thigh and Mike Tyson tattooed on the inside of the other.

Nowadays no-one can recognise who they are, but people still think that's Don King in the middle.

:p

HAAAH! :D:D

I think the main thing is the quality of the work & the design, I've got for a style I've been drawing & painting for about 10 years (traditional) & pick figures from the mythology which have a relevant metaphor in today's society or at a personal level.

The Hannya represents a women scorned, along with the concept that we all have the ability to turn into something far less desirable given the circumstances - there is also a semi-literal ironic element of having it on my arm as it fits the idea of 'keeping the devil at arms length'.

Namazu (giant catfish) is a creature which causes earthquakes, it was said in some legends it was to force the greedy to release coins from their pocket to help the poor - it also has another more subtle meaning that what harms the individual often ends up harming the many.

Then ensuring the designs are done with a high level of artistic talent & are tastefully done - personally being able to hide them if I need to is also an aspect.

I've had my tattoo's for years, both arms pretty much covered, Also met and spoken with some great people over tattoo's in the years i've had them, without they would just be another person i walk by on the street.

I love the feeling of having one done, and would still go back for more if i had the spare money, but since TV shows like Inked ,and many many footballers started getting them the prices have shot up.

If someone looks at me and decides they don't like me that's their issue, i'm no different with or without my tats.

Best thing i've read in GD. :D:D:D

Personally don't mind them, but wouldn't bother with getting one done. I'd never decide on what to have, where to have it or whether its worth it (for me).

Wow me and uncle dowrie agree on something.

As much as I hate tattoos, I am glad the cray cray are marking themselves.

only because it is a fact rather than just opinion :p

tattooed girls are more likely to be mental than girls without tattoos
