Bloody immigrants not respecting the law

What's my sig got to do with anything about this unfortunate person.
As I said, the guy knew the law. And still decided to break the law in a country where he knew it could be devastating. So he deserves the punishment. So, no sympathy what's so ever.

He was stupid and deserves to be punished. I can not think how anyone can deserve 300 lashes for such a crime.

32 countries (quick wiki) have capital punishment for drug trafficking including the USA. One could argue that alcohol is a drug - tolerance, dependence, mental and physical repercussions. And that is the view of Saudi. Someone earlier said he was making the alcohol at home.

For the record I loathe Saudi and their hypocrisy but the the punishment for this crime is dependent on which view - clearly here it's not a drug over there obviously so.

In an ideal world we wouldn't have any dealings with Saudi Arabia, they're still in the dark ages as far as their culture and society go. With that said to go there and then try and drink alcohol is playing a stupid game and winning a stupid prize.

Well you aren't showing an awful lot of compassion or mercy so it seems a touch hypocritical.

I wonder how some of the posters here would have acted if say under the regime in Nazi Germany

well herp derp it is the law herp derp he broke the law herp derp....

The 'it's the law the land argument' is odd to me because it can be used to justify the enforcement of all crap laws everywhere, including this country. In this instance it's a totally crap law, so I do have sympathy for him. That is not to say that those hoping to break laws and get away with them should do so without considering the risks involved or exercising due discretion.

What makes it a crap law? It's quite an easy one to obey and it's not like they're the only country to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol. Perhaps prohibition in the 1930s might have been more successful if they'd enforced it with corporal punishments.

I agree that crap laws shouldn't be tolerated merely because it's the law of the land but this isn't a crap law, just one that we're not used to in our culture.

It's a crap law because alcohol shouldn't be illegal.

I should have added that its crappiness is dramatically enhanced by its absurd punishment.

There’s a difference between having an unjust law/punishment forced upon you in your own country and voluntarily going to a country with laws/punishments you don’t agree with, and then deliberately and premeditatedly breaking those laws. In the latter situation I’m of the opinion you don’t get to complain.

prohibition would also illustrate why it is a crap law

though it is the punishment rather than a law banning alcohol that is the main issue here

nothing to do with being white, though yes some countries are more developed than others and not all cultures are equal

The problem is when you're in charge of an unruly mob like the House of Saud is in Saudi Arabia you need to rule with an iron fist - the alternative is getting something like Islamic State in charge.

Ah the white man imposing his culture around the world :)

If it's silly to assert that something (with any sensible application) that is harmless should not be illegal, I fear for us all!

I say that whilst simultaneously thinking that hand guns and certain hard drugs should certainly be illegal, without feeling a shred of hypocrisy, because I'm able to harness the mighty power of being objective and decisive.

nonsense - this sort of thing goes far beyond that and there isn't any excuse or reason for a lot of it other than an irrational belief in a retarded form of Islam - they don't need to execute people for sorcery, whip people for adultery etc..
