Nvidia plans to lock Game Ready drivers behind GeForce Experience registration

I use AMD cards at this point in time, so not an issue for me. However, I hope AMD dont go down this road and mimic Nvidia. I love my PC because I can pretty much do what I want with it.

If I wanted to be locked down then I would get a console or a bunch of Apple products. I have never liked being locked down in anything. People should still have a choice.

However, it does look like this maybe the start or a locked down ecosystem for Nvidia users. I hope it isnt, I really do. I mean it's already bad enough buying a GFX card and Monitor, now that we have G-Sync and Freesync. PC's have never been the choice of owners who want to be controlled or locked into something. I just hope this is not the beginning of this kind of attitude by GFX card manufacturers. We can all do without it IMHO.

Something just occured to me. I have a Steam account and an Origin Account and a GOG account and an Ubisoft account.......PC owners are already locked into something that we cant get out of.

Forget all of the above.......We are truly Doomed, and there's no going back.

And so it begins. The shocker of your accusations here DM. What you claim of others is exactly what you do yourself.

I was about to say exactly the same thing. The hypocrite / irony alarm was whirring with every word I chewed through in a typical DM wall of text designed to try and win the argument by boring his target to death.

Agreed!
Least am not the only one who shares a similar point.

Well obviously Rusty....that tactic hasnt worked!

LOL

OT Asus rant:

IMO Asus make the best Motherboards, My Sabertooth is 4 years old and its spent its entire life running AMD 6 and 8 core CPU's running at silly frequencies / overclocks, at least 2 years with boiling hot VRMs from greedy very overclocked 8 core Vishera's, its saved those CPU's countless times from multiple time failing water coolers.

It spent those 4 years tortured and it just keeps going and going and going with perfect and dependable stability.

BUT, Asus after sales service is abysmal, its a real same because the hardware is unmatched.

I have had two CHVFZ and a Sabertooth and have abused them so much. I love Asus tech but agree that their after-sales support is lacklustre and far from what you expect from a company that attaches the premiums it does to its products.

I am now mostly Gigabyte as i feel they have upped their game in the hardware department and their support is local (also am no longer running 5.3 on a 8150, so bulletproof VRMs are not vital).

On Topic Nvidia Geforce Experience.

I don't like where this 'registration for drivers' thing is headed but i feel at most it is only a minor inconvenience. I cant help but feel that people are making mountains out of molehills when it comes to these sort of things.

What do you want to do? because so far nobody has managed to show how this change is going to negatively impact anyone.

want quick access to various different drivers sitting on my storage for whatever reason be it instability problems introduced on a new driver or better game specific performance.

Just don't delete the drivers GFE downloads, then you will have just that (NB: Since I last checked GFE may have started deleting downloaded drivers once they become obsolete because people were complaining about it just stockpiling old drivers, in which case copying them to the folder you want to keep drivers in would fix that).

Yep, it isnt even an AMD vs Nvidia debate. It's much wider than that. It's about freedom of choice in whatever you do.

In todays society we all give up parts of our freedom to make things easier or to do things easier. Games for instance, as mentioned by myself in the thread a few posts above.

We are all locked down to our choices of digital distribution. I prefer Steam over Origin (Not a big fan of EA) but I also love Battlefield games and therefore have to make a personal sacrifice to run that game. It really is no biggie in the grand scheme of everything but I wish I could play BF4 without having to use Origin. It takes up memory and can be a bit of a pain in the arse but I put up with it to play battlefield. The only other reason is that Origin does make patching BF much better than when we had to do it manually in BF2. If any of you can remember what that was like when you had to do a complete re-install and patch then you will immediately understand what I mean.

So in a nutshell....we are already screwed and have to make decisions and sacrifices for our continual search for enlightenment and patch free gaming.

Oh well, lifes a bitch I guess.

That isn't easier than what we have now-pick a driver>clean instal>good to go-et voila, hence the concern.:p

Nvidia remind me of Apple of the Phone world, and AMD remind me of the Android.. I bet you can tell what I roll with ;) :)

Nokia brick?

Are you actually rolling around the floor laughing, or are you being dramatic again ?

Aha! I wondered what rolf meant......

atleast your NVidia guys get drivers, being with amd got to wait over 8 months for a whql driver to come out.

First world tech problems eh...

You people who are bashing this based on the morale high ground, I assume you never use Facebook, Windows 10 or any android apps, seeing as they all want to know the in and outs of everything about you before you use them.

I don't see this being a massive issue I so amazed that everyone is up in arms about it ? yer it's an added program but I bet you won't ever notice a performance hit and it will help newb pic games and hopefully help the pic market and segment to grow

I haven't noticed Nvidia's Drivers coming any thicker or faster than AMD's, it seems about the same to me.

Yes we now have monthly updates from AMD and generally are stable. Nvidia is around the same turnaround so nothing between them except for certain hardcore rival 'fans' still repeating the tired narrative of AMD drivers suck, etc.

Does nobody have principles anymore?

Unfortunately, we are all easily lured into dropping our principles all too easy over certain things. My self for example, I'm happy to use Windows 10, and Samsung Android phone and NVidia GFE but I wont go near Facebook, because of its privacy issues that it had in the past. And yes I know that makes me a bit of a hypocrite, but look at yourselves isn't there some aspect of that in all our lives.

Facebook is weird too, you can't Delete an account, only deactivate?
