OP - you should watch it from 1-6, because it sounds like you've seen it before. That actually makes for a more satisfying experience I find, as you already know everything so seeing it unfold in chronological order makes sense.

If you haven't seen them before, it is absolutely essential that you do not watch 1, 2 and 3 first. I'm not talking about any machete order or whatnot, that is fine. Those of you who introduce people to Star Wars by showing them 1, 2, and 3 first, are awful, awful human beings and there is a special level of hell waiting for you.

I'm going to watch the 'trendy' machete order this time around, but the classic 4-5-6-1-2-3 is the order everyone else watched them in so you can't go wrong with that really (highs and lows!).

For all the poor parts of Jedi, it also has my favourite scenes of the series. Empire is the consistently better film however.

Jedi was also the only film I saw at the cinema first time around so maybe this is why.

They why bother with 1-3?

I joke about it, but I'm fairly serious, I was never a huge Star Wars fan and am pretty omnivorous when it comes to films, books and TV, I tend to not get upset about prequels/sequels that change things about, I even enjoy bad films (my brother jokes about some of the stuff I buy).

But Episode 1 was one of the worst Sci-fi films I've seen, I liked some of the ideas, I liked the general universe it was set in, I liked the backdrop.
But the plot and characters were terrible.

If you have never seen the films before, then start with 4 5 6.

If you have seen them before, then 1,2,3,4,5,6. To fully tell the tale from beginning to end.
