DX12 Support For Battlefront ?

COD got DX12 support?

Don't think they've committed to an answer. Part of the beauty of that engine is that they've separated/abstracted the renderer quite nicely from the underlying mechanics so in theory they could rip out the DX11 one today and stick a DX12 one in tomorrow with relatively minimal work... however that would basically just be shoving the same thing down a new feature pipeline actually making use of DX12 features above what you can do with DX11 another matter.

the list there looks pretty small so far :(

If mantle is basically dx12 then since bf4 was a mantle title ud think it isn't that much to adjust it from mantle to dx12.

Ohhh nooo :( you went there lol. DX12 is either far from mantle or its much similar and with it being Dice it will be another fail? We will soon find out haha.

Mantle was a success with BF4, though. Dont know what is justifying the DICE bashing here. They've got a positive track record when it comes to graphics and performance optimization on PC. The way Battlefront runs and looks is already an outright miracle, if you ask me. Stunning level of competence shown there.

Anyways, DX12 would be similar to Mantle, but still requires work. Work that they probably couldn't justify doing early on until they knew what kind of W10 adoption figures they could expect.

Still, I wouldn't expect mind blowing changes. The game is already designed to run without DX12, so the best we'll see is Mantle-like performance improvements(ie most significant for unbalanced rigs), but it's going to take a game built with DX12 in mind from the get-go to really show what it can add to the experience other than just a FPS improvement(so Battlefield 5, hopefully).

We must've played different games called BF4...

DICE were at the forefront of Mantle development which they developed alongside the DX11 version so it is a bit strange that they didn't develop a DX12 version of Battlefront from the start. Maybe they started before DX12 was available or EA didn't expect DX12/Windows 10 uptake to be strong in the first year.

Mantle never did start off very well in BF4, it had loads of issues it was far into BF4's life span did it become more ironed out. Not trying to bash mantle, as it's a great API its just it didn't get a great opener to the world. BF4 had loads of issues and bugs and still has some today.

BF4 does run great for a lot of people and SLI and xfire scaling is good too but it had lots of issues and still has a few which tbh isn't great for how long its been out. This is where the justification comes from.

Battlefront looks amazing and runs really well, just a lot of people including my self are sceptical how DX12 will run once integrated. Hopefully really well.

Also my previous post was in regards to DX12 being practically mantle. a lot won't agree with this lol. I'm not one of these people but im not going to air my opinion on this as it sparks loud voices.

To be fair Mantle worked well for me in BF4, to the point when I upgraded to a 4790k from a AMD 1090t there was no difference regards FPS wise. That's on a 290x.

Guess I was lucky.
