Looking for some advice guys

I sold a Shield Tablet on eBay the other night on a buy it now, buyer seems decent and as over 370 positive feedbacks since 2010 and all went smoothly I.e. Money is in my account and tablet was posted today via RMSD.

However I just got this message.

"Hi mate, you've been so helpful throughout this process, I told my lass last night about this purchase. I haven't received it yet and she said she already bought me one for Christmas, sorry to be a pain and of course I'll reimburse your postage cost, but can I return it as soon as it arrives."

Ok I've never had this before and if I refund him it's going to be a PITA for me, also how would this work, I've already paid PayPal fees and I'll owe eBay fees. Plus I'm concerned this might be a scam. E.g. I didn't think you could buy these tablets anymore so where did his "Lass" get one? I'm concerned :(

I really don't want to refund and accept the tablet back but will he be able to do a chargeback even if I stated "No Returns"?

Need some advice please guys

Thanks

Do you know the serial number of the device you sold? He might be genuine, but it's eBay, I'd immediately think scam. HE might be trying to send you back a different/broken tablet?

just reply "sorry, money I made form the sale was for bills, bills are now paid."

Should have discussed his purchase with his other half really.

His misses may have bought another one like he just bought one from you??

I would tell him that he can either keep it, or reimburse you for all your costs including postage. He's offering to send you money already, just ask for more.

Do you really have to pay fees on items that are returned, though??

If he refuses delivery sure, but not if he accepts it and then sends it back after.

This. Tell him if he's serious to refuse the package and it'll work its way back to you. No chance of scam that way. Once you've got it back you can mutually cancel the trade and should get your fees back.

I'm an idiot and didn't note down the serial number :(

I sold it for £265 inc. £11 RMSD which works out he'd owe me about £45 for fees and postage plus he'd have to spend a further £11 to post it back.

I don't know how it would work and how long it would take to get tablet back from RM and fees back from eBay if that's possible?

Does sound like a scam and a bit convenient that his missus has gone and brought one as well.

Plus, its not your problem.

There's an option on ebay to cancel the transaction as long as both sides agree (at least there used to be. Stopped using eBay to sell a while ago). You'll get all fees back.

As said above, though, tell buyer now that you'll only accept it back if he refuses the delivery. Should reduce the likelihood of a scam.

I'll still need him to refund me the postage, also any ideas when I'd get the tablet back and fees refunded from PayPal and eBay?

Tell him you have the serial number so will confirm it is the same. Even though you dont have it!

Get his missus to take hers back and get money back. If they don't talk to each other their relationship is doomed anyway and tell him to ring Dear Deidre....

If you get it back, it's should show up on Google Play under it's previous name, otherwise as a brand new device.

Your router might also have a record of it.

I did include my return address.

So nobody else thinks I should just tell him I've spent the money and can't accept it back?

If I go with telling him to refuse delivery and refund me £11 postage. Do I then wait for tablet to come back before cancelling transaction and refunding him or does eBay do this and Bill me, sorry over 400 trades and never come across this before!!!

To get a return on ebay, the buyer will need to enter tracking information for the return postage.

Thus having him send it back via refusing is the best idea. That way there is no return tracking.

then its up to you to refund him when you feel best or send him a partial refund for the amount minus £20 for messing you about and £11 for postage
