eBay buyer wants to return item before he's received it :(

Easy, put a mark on the back of the item with a UV pen (a small mark).
If someone returns an item to you, check for the mark. Simple.
Or take pictures of something on it (a particular scratch or dent)

but it doesn't prove anything and ebay wont listen

otherwise as a seller you could take a pic of a good serial, then sell a broken item when they send it back "oh but look mr ebay the serial is different they celarly are scamming me"

and ebay near enough always side with the buyer! I had a row to get my listing fee's back when a woman from London bought a glass coffee table from me even though it clearly stated local collection she expected me to post it lol

Ok I've never had this before and if I refund him it's going to be a PITA for me, also how would this work, I've already paid PayPal fees and I'll owe eBay fees. Plus I'm concerned this might be a scam. E.g. I didn't think you could buy these tablets anymore so where did his "Lass" get one? I'm concerned :(

Ebay will refund the Paypal fees when the transaction is reversed. He probably means his "Lass" got him a tablet, not specifically a shield.

It's like Googling "Head pain" and ending up deciding to top yourself because you're quite obviously about to shuffle off this mortal coil anyway.

The worst thing you could have done is post on here for advice to be honest :p

I would agree with you, but everybody else who has ever used ebay also creates a thread here too.

Only thing overtaking it this week is facebook threads, we had 3 in one day at the weekend i think.

This. I have had similar dealings with Ebay and I had loads of supporting pics but Ebay said they couldnt use the pics and wouldnt look at them as I could have just googled pics of the same item and copied them.

They stated to me the only pics which can be used to support a case is the ones in the advert.

That means pics of you putting it in a box, well wrapped etc with the buyers address on are impossible as when you list your advert you don't know who is going to buy it!

Basically. Buyers have all the power. They have 6 months warranty on anything they buy even second hand from a private seller. They can basically say anything or even if the item works fine, if it doesnt happen to be compatible with what they have, they can claim a refund. My friend sold a brand new (unused) but opened electric lawnmower once. 5 months later he got a dispute saying it didnt work. Ebay sided with the buyer and when he got the lawnmower back its was well used and obviously had been used every week for 5 months cutting their lawn.

Selling, unless its cheap, I would never do on Ebay now.

Whereas buying stuff I love it. 6 months warranty of second hand stuff is better than you get from any shop.

Update.

Checked tracking and it's waiting for customer collection at the Post Office, I received a friendly email from the buyer explaining he wasn't home all day and had 3 cards waiting for him and he will go to the post office tomorrow and tell them to return to sender.

IIRC, because the postie could not deliver the Shield to the address as nobody answered the door, it will now sit at the local depot for something like 18 days. If not collected during those ~18 days, the parcel will then be returned to you.

So you should get your Shield back week commencing 16th November, with an attempted delivery before 1300, because it was sent originally by you as a "Special Delivery" parcel.

If the recipient had refused to sign for the parcel, your Shield would be returned to you (or at least an attempted delivery) before the end of this week.

hopefully lesson learned from this
if you have done everything correct you're end dont accept a return
it may be harsh for a genuine buyer but it's causing you no end of hassle

Update

The buyer as refunded me £11 to my PayPal (gift) and as gone to the post office to refuse delivery. I've checked tracking and it's already back in Nottingham and should be delivered tomorrow.

I've agreed to refund the buyer through eBay as soon as I've received the tablet which he's happy with.

I've learned my lesson and won't be using eBay for selling anymore unless it's something cheap! As a seller it's an absolute minefield I could sell something then 6 months down the line get a chargeback, simply no worth it especially when you take into account their expensive fees :(

I would say that actually the buyer wasn't a scammer at all, and he was honest and upfront, so were you.

So essentially proving eBay isn't just fill of scammers.

How on earth has this experience taught you not to use ebay because of scammers?

It isnt. There are genuine buyers out there like. Problem is perhaps 1 in 100 will be a scammer.

And I still don;t like the fact you are forced by ebay to give a 6 months warranty on second hand items.

It just made me realise how unprotected you're as a seller, I didn't really think about it much before but this experience and reading about other folks experiences as made me think about the whole 6 month charge back period, not being able to leave negative feedback for buyers, you're at the mercy of the buyer :(

Yeah I used to think the same as you but the 6 month charge back warranty was the killer blow for me. Until 6 months have gone by you never know for sure whether you will have your money removed. If you are a regular seller then unlikely you will have unlinked your bank account/cards so it will come as a bolt out of the blue.

You aren't safe until 6 months is up.

But like I said, on the other hand eBay is by far the best place to buy stuff. Hell even ocuk doesn't give a warranty as long on its b grade stuff!

My general rule of thumb is to sell anything valuable/electronic on a forum or gumtree and sell tat on eBay that I'll be happy to get a couple of quid for.
