3Ds or 2DS?

Hey folks. I'm in the market for my first Nintendo console since 1994. I have a little old Korean handheld thing (GP2X) I use for emulating 8 and 16 bit consoles but it has its limits and lately it's been bumming me out that there's a whole generation of great games I've not played on the DS. So anyway, I'm weighing up whether to get the 3DS or save a little cash and get the 2DS. Are there enough games on the 3Ds to warrant getting that over the other?

And one other thing - bigger screens are better, right?

Cheers anyone!

Oh Yes, you want to get the 3DS, newer model with the extra nub. So you can play all the games like Xenoblade which won't work on the older 3DS models.don't bother with the 2DS.

I did find the bigger screen was nice but it does have the same resolution as the smaller screen so you notice jaggys and that a bit more on the bigger one, something to consider if you notice that stuff

Cheers guys. Looks like I'll get the newest one then! Kind of a jerk move by Nintendo to sort of make their older 3DS obsolete though, eh. Surely developers can find a way to make their games work without the extra nub thing?

Its rarely used but makes it easier for new games to control and the older games which required the Circle Pad Pro addon.

With the NX coming out next year (maybe?) who knows how long the DS has. I really like my 2ds feels much nicer if you have big hands I think. And Tesco's price is ace.

Top tip, if you are buying a new 3DS, check out the homebrew sub-reddit. A lot of cool stuff on there, one can even bypass region-lock with homebrew. Long story short, make sure your new console is on firmware 9.2 or below and you are good to go, no extra cost required. Otherwise, home-brew requires extra investment. Best models of the 3DS to get are the original or original XL IMHO, the 'new' 3DS is a bit too overpriced for the small advantages it has over the originals. Plus the second analogue nub is said to be terrible on the new 3DS, very few games use it anyway. There are also very few new 3DS exclusive games, Xenoblade came out on Wii, better to buy the Wii version or play it on PC via Dolphin emulator. Older 3DS is more likely to come with a better firmware for homebrew. Though HB will work on the latest FW, the best is 9.2 or below, the most can be done on that FW.

Here's some details on which models ship with which firmware: https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-xl-firmware-by-version-number.381479/

Got one of the Tesco deal £49 Mario Kart 2DS' on the way (I hope...been delayed 24 hours at present for pickup) the 3D effect made me a bit sick on the 3DS but I LOVE the available games especially Mario Kart. Have a VITA but it seems to have got a little stale at present
