***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

i must admit i only open the bag it says in the manual as it makes it easier to find parts.

i could not imagine tipping everything in 1 big pile when building sets like the star destroyer and the millennium falcon as this comes with so many bags! lol

It clearly shows you on the instructions if you are meant to be using numbered bags?

Not all sets have them, but they are increasing.

But real men don't use instructions....

Tbh, the last set I made was the Ghostbusters car and the VW camper. Neither are really that many compare to the Falcon.

The Le Mans 24 Hours car doesn't come in numbered bags, and practically that made it a complete pig to build.

The pieces are large so you needed a lot of space to separate them out into tubs. And then the half a billion Technic connectors filled a whole bowl.

Who's been to the the Brick 2015 show at NEC?

How was it ? worth a visit ?

Me, as I said above :D:p

Yes, very much worth a visit, can easily spend 3-4 hours there and that's not hanging around.

Various models, collector stands, promotional stands and other general eye candy.

Don't waste your money on the VIP tickets.

I was gonna get the VIP Ticket :P

This what you get for VIP, got the list from pistonheads.

Freebies - T- Shirt, bag, poly bag sets and more.
Early entry - when general admission opens it gets rammed
VIP Lounge - quiet and always a table free unlike the open seating areas
Ticket valid for all days

I spoke to someone today who went and said it was a good day but not to get VIP as it wasn't worth it. I'm going to try to go to the London one with my son.

I'm building from new parts for £700+

Would have been cheaper if I'd taken more time.

I've just listed all the parts in a spreadsheet/priced it up at £1200+ Although the killer parts seem to be the grey rigging at £87.55 each and the dish at £70.51:eek:

However this was all from one site and without shopping around. :) Just need to find the stickers. I found them earlier and now cant...:(

I bought the black rigging.

Haven't bought the dish but will just get a cheap alternative. 99% of folk won't notice.

I only bought 5 or 6 technic brick 1x16 in dark blue grey (or whatever it is) and the other 39 in black.

Black L shaped technic bricks not the yellow ones

Blue technic pins with long end rather than black

The little aerials I bought light blue grey bases but black aerials. Also bought separately rather than as a whole.

I also bought dark blue grey 1x2 bricks with hinge on one side rather than light blue grey. In the main it's hardly noticeable.

Dark red plate 6x14 is expensive so subbed it with brown I think.

Not bothered with stickers.

Used brickefficiency which helped but wasn't 100% reliable. Sometimes when it came to adding the parts at the bricklink shop the price was out by some margin. Pick a brick I didn't find useful at all.

I also stuck to EU as much as possible rather than US. You could get cheaper from the US but then risk getting stung for customs.

Cool, thanks mate that's good to know. I thought i was being hideously ripped off! Haha! Still, its far cheaper than buying it as a set... As i was looking through the more expensive pieces last night i did see that some had cheaper alternatives so i'll take a look at them. I was hoping to find the rigging on a cheap set elsewhere from someone who doesn't know what they are selling but i'll probably buy black in the meantime.

Deciding to do all this now just as there is hype around the new films probably wasn't my best thought through decision though.:o :D
