Tough Guy

Few friends. Always said I would run one for charity and not going to get any younger plus in a good fitness state at the moment so seemed a good time to give it a go.

Anyone done this before? Been signed up to do it in January and never ran one of these type of races before so any tips please feel free to share :)

Never done anything like this myself but....

You will need to toughen yourself up not only physically but mentally.

As a serious suggestion. (Yes, serious)

Spend your weekends preparing by running around in a wood, preferably while it is cold and raining.

Avoid the obvious foot paths (Make it hard)

If you manage to get really fit, try the dragging the motor car tyre thing! (But that is really tough)

Do it alone (having other people with you, especially if you are competing with them, will make it easier, for now, you do not want that! Use the advantge on the day! :p ) but do take a rugged mobile with you! (You do NOT want to be stuck alone in the middle of a wood in fading light in the winter with a broken ankle!)

Good Luck! :)

I've done a few summer ones but had trouble with the cold water and cramp then so decided not to do the winter one... My uncle has done it a dozen or so times though...

Recommendations... Be able to run, do a lot of running off road, do a lot of running up steep slopes, and condition your body to COLD water. You will be cold...

The course is great fun though, try and stay near the front as it can get a bit crowded at some locations later on.

If it means getting out of bed before 11am on a saturday, im out.

My dad used to work with a few ex seals and green beret's in germany in the late 70's. They reveled in this type of stuff, me dad and his mates just went to the boozer and were still able to get more work done next day.
