Faulty XR34 ??

Sound keeps playing and afterburner shows GPU usage still active. This past week while I RMA'd the monitor (only to get it returned to me... thanks) I've been back on the 4k with no issues either.
I got the monitor back this morning so I've been using it and waiting for the issues to arise again. So far, very very few distortions - I've noticed 3 in the past 8 hours. But last time I was using it for 3 days before issues arose so I'll have to see how it goes this weekend.
 
Lol 10 minutes after saying it's been fine, it starts again. GG Acer, you're going back and I'm getting a different one. So yeah, it's taken about 8 hours of use but fault replicated.

It's taken about 8 hours, probably 3-4 desktop use and the rest in games, but the monitor is definitely ****ed. I don't see what else it could possibly be. GPUs are fine as they work on another monitor and tested individually with xfire disabled. Tried 3 DP cables. It's not game/application specific - although I will note it does not do it on the desktop, only ingame or occasionally fullscreen video. But OC techies have said the monitor is fine so it must be something else :rolleyes:

It seems the popping noise I heard last time must have been the monitor speakers, I've turned the volume to 0 on the monitor and there's no longer the popping - I thought it might have been capacitors but I guess it's speaker.

No they are not. Read the post from Acer properly and avoid all the rubbish in that thread. Acer offering support for a replicated issue which is affecting some users does not constitute a recall of all X34's!! That would imply there was a massive problem with them like they were all blowing up or something. It's a perfectly normal support for a problem being offered. The wake from sleep backlights issue isn't affecting everyone but for those it bothers, Acer support can help
 
Ok, what the hell is going on...
Just started doing it on my 4k now (despite working ALL WEEK just fine), I think it's safe to say the screen is fine - either that or both monitors have somehow developed the same issue. The distortions aren't as frequent, but the screen blackout is. I'm now stumped -- I can only think it's the GPU, this is happening in a borderless window currently so crossfire isn't running. Since it's one of those issues that's tough to replicate (it's either happening or it's not) then it's going to be a dick to test properly, but I'll remove the primary GPU and run on the other GPU and see if the issue persists. Son of a .....
 
these things suck, could be gpu psu motherboard or just a software conflict, could start with a fresh windows install and run with the bare minmum
 
The issue is testing it. It's so random when the problem starts it could take weeks for me to diagnose it properly :/ Like now, I've taken a GPU out - so when do I rule that it was the GPU at fault? The XR34 went for 3 days with no issues when I first got it, the 4k I've had for a year but most recently I've used it from last Saturday through to today with no issues -- that's a week long, prolonged gaming, period before the issue arose. To say it's fudging me off a little is an understatement.. I'm not even sure what components it could be. I'd like to rule out CPU and RAM because I don't think they could cause this issue (without other issues present) but I can't even be certain of that much :/

Well I've taken a GPU out entirely. I'm just in game trying to get the issue to present, but who knows how long that'll take. It's something I'm probably going to have to just keep fiddling with over the next few weeks - changing a different part each time the issue comes up until the issue stops coming up, unless some bright spark has any better ideas :/
 
the way things are going with my system, i'm really wondering about compatibility these days. seems my psu causes whine on my gpu, but i was also testing a friends GPU - crashes all the time on his machine, but rarely on mine. (like once - with a power failure message logged) however his new GPU consumes more power and yet is fine on his machine. issues are getting weirder these days :(

Ok, well taken the GPU out and still getting issues. That's both GPUs tested, both monitors tested - getting issues on all, so I can rule all of them out... Not sure what that leaves... PSU? Mobo? Is that it :? I've not seen it happen in general desktop use, if that helps diagnose the issue (doesn't ****ing help me)
 
Install windows on a spare hdd is another option - I did that a while ago and ended up keeping it on that ssd and having a portable full of was really handy :). Might be drivers...

If I'd have thought about it 12 hours ago, I did have a PSU lying around - but that was back home. I'm now back on base 4-5 hours away from home :/

Which drivers would you suspect are at fault? I used DDU the other day before upgrading catalyst drivers - it was happening on the old drivers and the current. No other drivers have changed to my knowledge
 
I've had a faulty 24pin psu extension cable which would give me random blank screens. Sound would keep on playing but the image would disappear, I pretty much tried everything to get to the bottom of it from fresh OS install, different drivers, sli to one card, reseating gpu blocks. etc, in the end a psu tester picked it up.
 
it might not be the drivers, could be something like anti virus software, but i would start with a fresh windows install incase that is curupt

Interesting - Was it an issue that was fine for a period but then would consistently do it? Also surely it would happen in desktop use if such were the case, no? Something to consider though - I'll try and figure out some way of testing it. Thanks
