SO I've got an old 640gb western digital hdd, that worked before I unplugged it and moved it to a new case. By working i mean, it had all my files, was titled "gaming", now its titled to the normal name and shows as 931gb..and empty..what the hell..? Also got a new motherboard if that somehow can affect it lol

SO i was attempting to install windows on the drive..and during the bootmenu i could see the partition and it was still called gaming and had my files..so why doesnt it show during running before then

I had this same problem a few months ago
I used a data/partition recovery program and managed to recover90% of my 3TB drive
Can`t for the life of me remember what it was called though, might have been easus data recovery
took over 24 hours though and i copied it to another drive just in case

What's even the cause of this I dont get it, unplugging it and replugging makes it unrecogniseable ? lol

Show us a screenshot of Disk Management in Windows. Also a screenshot of Device Manager in the Disk drives section.

Try another SATA cable.
Try another SATA port.

Something similar happened to me, coincidence that it was also my Games labeled drive.
I have a 500GB SSD forr games and when I booted it up the contents had vanished and it showed as empty.

For me it happened when I booted up Windows 7 and, before the GUI started, I had thankfully seen it scrolling something about the permissions being wrong on the drive and changed them all.
When I came to boot back to Windows 10 the drive showed as empty and under the security tab I noticed that Windows 7 has removed Authorised Users from the list of people able to access it, thus until I added that back it just showed as empty.
