Garage messed up, course of action?

You dropped a ball by not kicking up a royal fuss in the garage.

Basically, all that they've done is repaired a fault (which they caused) FOC and offered nothing else. Given you had footage of their behaviour they've fobbed you off with the bare minimum and you chose not to turn the screw! They didn't even fix your rain sensor!!

The garage might get a rimming from Kia but they're probably relieved that you chose to be so laid back.

Personally I'd have told them that I wanted them to cover the costs of all the repairs at a 3rd party garage I actually trusted, certainly wouldn't let the cowboys near my car again.

Than i'd have put the footage on youtube clearly marked up and sent the link to local newspapers and spread it over facebook.

As it, they got off very lightly and will be able to screw other people over.

Not sure/nothing in particular. Throughout, both to their dealer and Kia HQ, I've said I'd rather go to the press than be offered anything but have given the opportunity for them to do... something.

So, in another way, you have told them that you dont want anything as you will go to the press... Not sure what options that leaves them if you didnt want anything...

As I mentioned, its unclear in the wording but is the dealer fixing the faults FOC including the initial rain sensor fault:
He advised us that he had instructed that the repair – which I am told would have had a retail cost of around £400 – should be undertaken to put right what was done incorrectly

If so, were you wanting more?

There's not much you can do. Like I said before just post it on youtube for all to see. Also find the dealer's google listing and put in your own review.

When anyone searches for a kia dealer in your area, they will know which to avoid.

I always remember to do google reviews and give a star rating.

All you can do is warn others and hurt their pockets.

Another halfway update.

Bizarrely Kia aren't really prepared to do anything. To quote:

Snipped for space.

From that I'd read that Kia are extremely unimpressed with the garage but that because of the way they've set up their dealer network there isn't an awful lot they can do to force a particular course of action. They can, and apparently will, keep them under review so that may cause the dealership issues later on down the line if they don't improve.

If you've told them you didn't want anything and would prefer to go to the press then maybe they took you at your word - I'd agree it would be nice if they had offered you something to compensate you for your loss regardless but it is also possible they viewed this as a no win situation, if they do offer you something then you might have taken it as an attempt to "buy" your silence.

As Richie mentions it's a bit unclear if the repair was conducted without cost to you. If you still aren't happy and feel Kia should be doing more then it's worth working out what would mollify you and deciding whether it is worth writing back to request that - this may be in the form of fixing the rain sensor, compensation for your time, details of action taken by the dealer to ensure that this never happens again or whatever but do take the time to be clear what it is you want. The garage/Kia could guess (and I'd suggest they probably could have tried harder) but it's going to be a bit of a frustrating game if you want something specific and don't say it.

Friends who work in PR said to just make it public and tweet a few places with it so here's a few clips of it anyway! OcUK exclusive ;)

There's subtitles if that helps...

Personally I think you're being a complicated PITA talking through smokes and mirrors which the dealer and Kia are either struggling to understand or taking on face value.

You don't want anything yet you act like you do?

How am I being complicated or talking through smoke and mirrors?

You realise not wanting anything in particular but wanting something is possible? I barely had an apology and absolutely no compensation for having my car broken over a weekend, and then having to start work late and finish early to take it back in to repair something which they knowingly broke.

I was offered a free service but that was quickly retracted after I asked for the original problem to be fixed, and that's it.

Both the garage and Kia HQ have seen the video and then just a factual timeline of events.

Their attitude after I took my car back in edged me towards just making it public rather than getting anything hence my thoughts on that changed, but I thought it best to give Kia HQ first refusal as it were, or at least make them aware of it beforehand.

I think you have done the right thing taking it public and posting the video (the subtitles were very useful) but I also think you need an end goal in mind. What are you hoping to achieve?

So judging by the video, the mechanic fixed it by doing something stupidly simple, told his boss he's not going to like it, then they wanted to break something else to squeeze more money out of you?

No.

And this is why 'shaming' videos are generally a bad thing - people misinterpret what happened or manage to convince themselves they are seeing something else.

JUSTICE! ;) Nah, don't know, it's just at a general name and shame stage now.

Not sure tbh. The first snippet re "you're not going to like it", not sure what that's about, could be that he's broken something or bodged something. Based on the other guy's guesses and his profanity I'm edging on the broken something side. This would explain how the car came back more broken, too.

Wow. Not sure what your issue is. Do you work for Kia?

I wanted some form of compensation yes, but I didn't ask for X, Y or Z. As I said they offered me a free service but that's neither appealing nor useful, and they retracted it anyway.

Wanted being the key word there, I don't want anything now.
