Cheapest card for running BF4 at Ultra?

I only really have time to play BF4 at the moment, and the gfx card I have struggles a fair amount at high (EVGA GTX760 ACX 4GB), so I have to keep it at medium. I've been toying with the idea of getting a 390 8GB, as I can get one for a decent price and the benchmarks look good for 1920x1200. My question is, is there a cheaper card that can run BF4 at ultra and would sufficient for my 650W PSU?

whats the rest of your spec?

i have a gtx 750 non ti 1gb mated to an i3 4160 and i can play BF4 on high at anything from mid 40s to high 60s and high 30s-mid 50s on ultra, so your card should be much better?? not recorded, but fraps was running hence the figures

for BO3 i would need a gtx 760 as like the minimum nvidia card for medium-high settings or just straight up high..

Depending on what you can get the 390 for it might be worth looking at a used 290 or 780 for around £150.

290/780 upwards will pretty much handle full ultra at 1920x resolutions at around 60fps gaming, anything lower than a 280X/680 (which will be cutting it fine on some maps) will be dropping to borderline unplayable framerates unless you sacrifice some settings.

Atleast on the stock maps an OC'd 7950 CF setup as mentioned above I've seen hovering around 100fps with ultra settings at 1920x you'd need both really for sustained 60+fps on a 64 player server on some of the DLC maps though.

Been a while since since i played BF4,but when i had a 280x(1100mhz) it easily got 60fps+ maxxed out in MP

Used a 780 at 1920x1200, iirc on max settings it averaged 90fps. A 290 would be pretty similar.

I did see drops as low as the high 40's. But I highly suspect that was due to server lag which can affect fps in this game. On a decent uk server, lows of the high 50's were more normal. Had a shedload of benchmarks I ran with single and sli 780 but unfortunately the hdd they were stored on went kaput.

If you used mantle on the AMD 290 series, it gave a very nice boost in minimum fps compared to DX.

Gaming at 2556x1440p+DSR:3620x2036 my monitors refresh rate is 60Hz so have capped my GPU/FPS to 75, games smooth as Silk no Stutters, Ultra settings.

Try capping your FPS if you get the Stutters.

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies. My system is as follows:

i5 4690 (non K version).
Gigabyte Z87 Sniper G1
16GB 1600MHz Samsung LV Green RAM
650W Antec TruePower PSU
EVGA GTX760 ACX 4GB GPU

I did think that my system was capable, but for some reason on anything higher than medium I get a fair amount of stuttering.

ya know, 50+ FPS is pretty smooth and thats on my setup, surely it only needs to be above 50?
Depends on how sensitive you are to framerate variations, what type of game it is, how dramatic the variations are, etc.

For a game like this, I think it's much better to hit a reasonably consistent 60fps, with the odd dip here and there being ok, but still not ideal.

Also OP, I dont know why you're so worried about playing on Ultra.

For one, your GTX760 should be doing better than Medium settings. I could get 1080p/60fps with a GTX670 using a mix of High and Ultra settings and 2xMSAA.
