Black Ops III: 12 GB RAM and GTX 980 Ti Not Enough

I having been gaming quite a lot lately as a lot of the threads on this forum I find difficult reading.

People are more interested in defending a brand or a SKU more than being objective.

What a lot of people don't realise about me is I have always liked using fast PCs long before I belonged to any forums because my priority was getting the best gaming experience.

Good stuff. I didn't know if you were putting your rigs to benching or gaming. I tend to go through stages of not playing anything for ages and then glued to everything for ages lol

SLI seems to work ok @2160p

Single card

4 cards

I noticed something odd with SLI, some of the AA settings are not available but are there on the single card options. I have seen this done before with Alien Isolation.

The nvidia Black Ops 3 graphics guide goes through this in detail, there's other stuff not available as well.

Have pretty much stopped playing COD since MW2...so is the game still going downhill and pretty much more of the same with subtle changes (that are not neccessary improvements) to meet the annual release (like mobiles new gen releases? :D)?

have installed the game last night and tried playing it. I have every setting maxed out, I have also locked the fps at 60. Most of the time the fps are at 60 however there are drops from time to time for a second or two down to even 45 fps. Is there any settings I can play with to get rid of the drops but being able to keep all the looks as much as possible?

- 'Extra' Ambient Occlusion setting is worthless. Knock it down to High.

- Dynamic Shadows makes a big improvement and the hit is related to what Shadow preset you use. Which brings me to:

- 'Extra' Shadow setting is useless. Knock it down to High. This has a double effect of also lightening the impact of the Dynamic Shadow setting. Win-win. This move right will save you big.

- 'High' Order Independent Transparency setting is useless. Knock it down to Medium.

- Subsurface scattering can probably be turned off for most people and they wouldn't even know it, saving some 5fps or so.

When I say these effects/settings are useless I mean it. Like, you really wont be able to tell the difference. Subsurface scattering is a bit more noticeable if you know what you're looking at, but doesn't really 'improve' things all that much, in my opinion. Turn it off if you need a few more fps.

The internal scalar in this seems poor. If I run my 4K monitor at 1440p (4K max'd = VRAM stutter) it looks pretty good. Using native output and as close to 1440p in the render resolution gfx menu and it looks awful?

Maybe it is just due to the limited AA options (SLI)...

Shocking performance in this title. Another big release that seems to perform better/be coded better on latest gen consoles :(
Nope.

Console versions run at dynamic resolutions, less graphic effects, and dont even hit 60fps.

As is almost always the case this generation, if a PC version doesn't perform great, usually the console version doesn't, either. PC version is not getting shafted like people regularly assume.

That said, I dont think the game runs badly, much less 'shocking'. I think video memory management isn't great, and I think some of the additions to the graphics that are costing performance compared to past CoD's might not necessarily improve the visuals to a big enough degree, but what I think a lot of people seem to be struggling with is just sticking everything on max and then complaining when their system cant handle it.

Also, multiplayer seems to run a *lot* better than single player. One culprit might be the advanced motion blur being used in the campaign.

got to be better than 360 version right? lol

i was so tempted after watching youtube, regardless of poor graphics, but while i like multiplayer i still like to play campaign which seems to be missed out on the old gen edition.
