It's a truly unfortunate experience when you get a new HDD and it turns out to be a faulty one. I have here 8 NAS enclosures, most of which are 4-bay ones (all with WD Red or WD Red Pro drives) and haven't had a single issue with any of them. As the others have mentioned, these things happen sometimes and I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I once had two new HDDs both DOA. It was for a new build and I had no other PC to test them in.
The HDDs were well packaged (from OcUK) and I spent most of the weekend thinking it must be something wrong with the motherboard. The following day I bought the same models locally which worked fine. OcUK replaced the faulty ones and I ended with 4 HDDs.
This was days before the floods in the Far east when the prices more than doubled. I would have bought 2 more HDDs eventually, OcUK saved me money
