Looks like Sky have been pressured into handing over their internet subscribers details by some 'lawyers' claiming copyright infringement. It's an interesting article even telling you what to do ......

As they are the ISP I think they'd have a pretty decent idea of who had what IP at what time.

They keep a log. They (and all other ISPs) have been handing over your details to any movie production companies that ask for them for ages. If you have an IP address and proof that it downloaded something that breached copywrite within the last year or so, you can find out who it was.
