Question about Microfilters (need a quick answer please)

My 80 year old Mum had basic BT Broadband last week and her phones are noisy.
She has 3 points in the house:
The modem is on one point and the 2 phones have a point each.
Do I need to buy 3 microfilters or 2?
 
they may have fitted a filtered faceplate for the modem, but there shouldn't be noise on the line,
anoher poster will be along soon about quiet line test (or whatever its called)

There's no faceplate, it's a little box that plugs into the socket and it has inputs for phone & modem.
The modem was sent to us and my Sister plugged it in.
 
Microfilters do not filter the DSL side. Only the analogue side is filtered. So if the DSL Modem is not sharing a socket with a phone you can ditch the microfilter if you like. The phones and any other analogue devices definitely need filter though.
 
Its honestly better to get a filtered faceplate so all your extensions are filtered through that. You can get them for <10 squid.

Last night I was told by BT there would be a charge for an 'Engineer' to come out even for an 80 year old but this morning my Sister rang and they're doing it for free.

That right there is why i put on a womans voice on the phone, get everything for free.
 
You need a filter for every socket where a non-DSL device is connected.

Pretty sure it will say all of this in the welcome pack from your ISP :confused: Not sure why you'd expect a charge for a technician visit to be waived because basic instructions haven't been followed just because of the age of the customer.

I asked a question that most people would ask, the answer was no and there was no debate because of the phone call I made the week before telling me about a charge for fitting.
Where did I say I expected BT to come out at 7pm in the evening before leaving, unbelievable?
I went down Maplin yesterday morning and bought 3 Microfilters and then got a text off my Sister saying BT were coming out and doing it for free.

Is there anything else you would like to make up?

It was this bit that caused the confusion, I must admit I read that as "she shouldn't have to pay for an engineer visit because she's old"

I don't even know where you got the bit about 7pm from but you've gone on the ultra-defensive for some reason so I don't see any point continuing this as it's obviously touched a nerve. Seems I'm not the only person to interpret "I was told by BT there would be a charge for an 'Engineer' to come out even for an 80 year old" in the way I did.
 
It's very easy so listen readers because I don't like words being put in my mouth:

Last week I rang BT and they said they could send an Engineer to install the modem for a charge or we could do it ourselves, so we opted for DIY.
My Sister fitted it and on Thursday my Mum was moaning about the line noise.
I Googled and it said we need microfilters so I rang BT on the off chance and they said there would be a charge, "even for an 80 year old pensioner?", "yes", Ok no problem.
This was a simple request that I think most people would ask, if you don't ask you don't get.
I go to Maplin and buy some Microfilters but meanwhile my Sister rings up and there is no charge for pensioners.

So I didn't expect to get it for free even though I cheekily asked and I didn't expect them to come out immediately before I left.
Yes I am touchy because I hate people making stuff up.
Oh and thirdly BT Asian lady told lies.
 
Plug the 3 filters in and cancel the engineer
Is there any real need to have an engineer? It'll take minutes.

I also read your post as it was implying that you believed the engineer should be free.

If you've read my post you will see that I've took them back because the Engineer is free and so are the Microfilters.

Please link to where I believed the Engineer should be free?

Just there. I even highlighted it for you.

Age isn't a defence or point of ignorance.
If an elderly persons car breaks down, they don't expect it to be fixed for free because they are elderly. Why should any other manual service be different?
Why would anybody interpret that differently?

BT never "tell" you that you are being charged for an engineer for a BB fault (unless you tell them you've cut the line or similar negligent act), they HAVE to make you aware that should an engineer come out and the fault be found customer side of the BT master socket then you may/will get charged. Your sister has been told the same sentence and interpreted it in a different way to you.
