Lord's Prayer cinema ad snub 'bewilders' Church of England

I'm guessing that their reasoning is if they allow this inoffensive ad (I assume it's inoffensive, I haven't watched it) then it'll open the flood gates for all kinds of religious ads. Not something that they want to touch with a ten-foot barge poll.

Indeed.

If anyone is offended by it, then they shouldn't be "protected" from it.

thing is whether someone is offended over it depends on the person

an atheist group could take out an advert saying there is no such thing as God/Allah... maybe they could use Jesus and Mo etc.. just a cartoon, yet someone might find it offensive

they've simply banned religious and political advertising in general to avoid the problem

"The Lord's Prayer is prayed by billions of people across the globe every day."

Well this probably isn't true, seeing as there are only around 2 billion Christians in the world and its doubtful that the vast majority pray daily, and pray using the lords prayer.

In anycase I'm all in favour of banning adverts for religion, especially when they will be shown to Children.

Same as OcUK forums. This is why we don't have religious threads. Just causes arguments.

What I find offensive is paying 12 quid for a cinema ticket to then be subjected to 15 minutes of the same adverts that I get on free to air television. I get the point on free-to-air television, it pays for the tv.

But I don't want to pay 12 quid to watch adverts for the latest Lynx fragrance.

What are your thoughts? Would you be offended if this came up? Do you think the DCM's actions were correct? Would it be more acceptable as a routine TV advert?
Is this a reflection of UK's secular nature?

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with it. After all aren't we all for free speech?

Please dont make this into a discussion about the validity of religion.

If I wanted to be preached at, I'd go to church. If I've just paid £10 to see a movie, I don't want to see any sky pixie propaganda.

I'm not a fan of Star Wars (neutral), but I think it's disgusting that the church attempted to use Star Wars as a vehicle to draw masses to the faith.

That's the same for any religion, monotheistic or otherwise. And that's with any big franchises, so I would be unhappy if they tried it on unsuspecting fans of Harry Potter, Bond, Doctor Who, Hunger Games, Despicable/Minions, Ice Age, Disney etc.

I won't be preached, end of. It caused problems for me at my last workplace, and sackings soon followed. (and we folded lol)

Interesting , tell me more!

My manager was one of those born-again types, assuming pastor role to us minions. Some obliged, others didn't. Because of my hearing and sight loss though, the manager paid particular attention to me, attempting the conversion card almost daily. Because I didn't oblige, I was berated and put down and ended up with depression (although I didn't take time off work for it). I filed a grievance, but to no avail because the MD was quite religious too (although not a born-again). Eventually, my manager suspected that I was writing to my mum from my work's PC about his behaviour (which was true). So he asked the network engineer to install a keylogger on my PC called Remote Desktop Spy when I wasn't around. I later got caught red-handed and got sent to the MD's office. When I told him my motive, I just got let off with a verbal warning. However, the manager resigned just a month later because of this, and the network engineer got the chop soon after that. Karma :D I won't be preached. I only found out about the keylogger after this happened as I later noticed it as a process in task manager.

So does AMD vs Intel, AMD vs NVIDIA and Consoles vs PCs.

thje cinema doesn't show nay adverts that are political or religious.

probably because idiots throw their popcorn etc at the screen when theyre annoyed.

It isn't the first graphics card thread that has been locked here or other forums. Console/PC wars can be very nasty as well. Every forum suffers it.

I do like how people are complaining about not wanting pieces of fiction fired at them whilst they're at the cinema...watching fiction and having pieces of fiction fired at them. Lol
