Nano Probably heading to ~£400 for Black Friday

Reportedly ALL have coil whine from what I've heard :(

Hope it's wrong though! Good card for the money

That was something which was reported in the first week of availability. Heard nothing to suggest any issues since. Certainly the 3 I've seen (heard) have none ... 2 on demo in retailers and 1 that a guy I know owns. Besides, you've been around long enough to know that what you just said is total ********. Unless they were using dozens of 5 cent 'pillow' caps, and ludicrously cheap VRMs, there's no way that could be the case (all of them having whine) - obviously they are not.

It's got nothing to do with AMD lol even nvidia Linux driver sucks compared to directx.. The OS just sucks for gaming. The only thing that can save SteamOS/Linux is Vulkan API.

No, it is AMD. They're culpable. But they're completely rejigging their Linux drivers and standardising them with the Windows ones, as well as open-sourcing everything. It isn't a small task and will take a while to complete.

As others have said though, Vulkan is likely to be fine from day one.

If AMD were looking to the future they would have identified that Linux as a platform would see more usage. For example Steambox.

The problem is, AMD are not looking to the future, they can just about work out the here and now. If they were looking to the future we would not be in a position of poor supply for obvious demand.

That's a ludicrous thing to say. Of the 3 big companies in PC hardware they're the only ones that have consistently looked to the future. APUs. GDDR5. HBM. GCN. Mantle (and DX12 / Vulkan / LiquidVR). HSA. HUMA. A short term fix for Linux would be putting in a load of work on the driver without standardising libraries with Windows and not open sourcing it ... a band aid. Instead they've delivered a new low level API and they're standardising and open sourcing Linux display drivers ... something NVIDIA aren't seeking to do. It takes time, but the end result is likely to be very much worth it.

I'd imagine that AMD will want their Linux drivers to match or exceed the performance and functionality of NVIDIA's by Q2 next year when Bristol Ridge APUs launch. They ought to be the most popular SteamBox platform. If it takes much longer than that, then it's really going to cost them sales.

Calm down eh. I'm just reporting what I'd heard, and you'll see I hoped I was wrong.

SteamOS is waiting on Vulkan more so than anyone else.. Without Vulkan SteamOS is dead.
Amd nor nvidia or valve can speed up game development time.
Linux is hanging into Vulkan being good and good enough to give Microsoft directx a battle..

Valve can and have, they created an in-house translation layer to transit between DX and OGL : http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/1...oftware-here-come-the-steamos-and-linux-games

It can also be applied to non-source engine development too.

SteamOS/Linux has seen more AAA titles released in the last 2 years then it has in the previous 20. Its on the rise, vulkan or no vulkan.

Personally I think SteamOS/Linux will eventually surpass windows/DX as the go to gaming platform, as said though, it will need both AMD and Nvidia to pull their socks up to make it an attractive option for both developers and customers.

Back on topic, a £400 nano would be nice to see, as soon as xmas is over I plan to make a steambox type machine, as out of my spare parts the only thing I'm missing is a decent small GPU.

Offer has ended in the markets that it was available. I got one, just in case it didn't reach the UK.

Hope for those of you interested in one it does make it here.

They would have to knock £100 or more off it, its a bit pricey isn't it for £500?

There is no such price move destined for UK I believe officially, I suspect what was seen in Europe was a one off promotion.

I do have $20,000 to throw around on some AMD deals for Black Friday, half from a partner and half from OcUK, yes we are so kind. :)

Let me see what I can do for Black Friday, should be able to stir up a good Nano, 390X and 390 deal me thinks. :)

Don't ask about 380X, not allowed to touch a new product, but I am also trying to do something on 380 4GB.

Exciting times ahead and all deals will be revealed around 9am this Thursday. :)

Forums gettings the heads up as always. ;)

Oh Gibbo... Why tease me, throw a Fury/Fury X into that little sale and You have atleast 1 sale from me... 2x 390 or Fury X :p
Would be very nice to see some discounts on motherboards and RAM maybe?
Hopefully you can provide, because there is no doubt we will buy :)

Cannot do touch the Fury/X but can try to discount them a little on weekly offer. ;)

Memory shall be plenty of deals on DDR3 and DDR4, but most of them on weekly offer. :)

Linux is ~1% of steam playerbase. Why would a struggling business like AMD pour money into something which might be something in 10 years from now? Basic business sense tells you how stupid this would be, yet you want them to do exactly that. But even if somehow linux performance achieved parity with windows (yeah..), what makes you think people would migrate to it? Most people dislike change, profoundly, especially when it benefits them very little and they don't have to do it.

Linux gaming is irrelevant and will be irrelevant for a long time for a very simple reason: money.

Im still stuck whether to upgrade the 8320 to X99, or buy more RAM to add to my 8gb DDR3 RAM and a shiny new cooler and overclock...
Think a 390 or 2 is going to be on my Santa list and most likely another 8/16gb.

Shall just have to wait and see :p Phanteks Enthoo Luxe/Pro maybe? Or NZXT H440/340? Coolermaster Mastercase Pro 5. Any of the 4 would be INSANE!

As the great Arron Crascall once said, that would be going straight in my basket...

So what do they need to pour money into then? As Linux is apparently irrelevant (TO YOU)

How are they wasting money by supporting Linux, I ask because am sure the AMDGPU devs + the Mesa devs would love to see this superposed money that they are pouring into Linux.

Oh, wait your talking about there proprietary stack I guess , which is mainly there FirePro based stuff. (It's what their linux desktop proprietary driver is based on)

Yea cracking idea to forget them wouldn't it

Guys, I just picked one of these up but have a couple of (stupid) questions. There was a method to my madness though!

Will this fit a standard case? I think it should but I can't see the confirmation anywhere.

I presume it's fine with a triple monitor setup?

Will it be ok with a 550W PSU?

I think all the answers are yes but if someone could confirm I'd appreciate it!

Also, is the card worthwhile....

Yes the Nano fits in a normal case. Just a shorter PCB. Tripe monitor should work fine. 550 Watts is fine. I run mine off a 500 Watts Silverstone SFX PSU with a 4690k both over clocked and have no issues.

Most I have seen lately is 21 quid off a Fury X, the only price point I will bite at now is £460 or lower. It does not match a 980ti performance wise, so I refuse pay equal pricing for a Fury X. £480 for a ti is tempting, alas I have a freesync monitor......

Many grats. Everything should be fine so enjoy your card !

If the price stays at £409 I will be picking one up myself to CF with my Fury X :)

Glad that OCUK did get the cheap Nano promotion ... the German e-tailer I'd ordered one from claimed to have oversold and cancelled my order.

Picked one up from OCUK. Was tempted to get 2, but can't fit 2 of them and my sound card in my FT03 .. and would also have had to replace PSU.

Can't get over how tiny these things are ... I hadn't been using my remaining 7990 (had 2) as it's been overkill for the games I've been playing for ages. Here's a photo of it next to the 7870XT that it replaces.

Air flow is now so much better inside the cramped case that my 3770K is 5C cooler at idle.

It's very quiet, too.

Just want to point out according to review, at stock setting while it will have the power consumption remain at below 175W, which is cool and quiet, but the clock speed would be hovering around 800-900mhz and performance would have only be around a bit above 390X/980...but if you increase the power limit by 50, the clock speed would remain much more consistently at arould 1000mhz and performance much closer to the Fury X, but at the cost of power consumption increasing by around 80W, and higher temp and possibly higher cooler fan.

So it's really like having an option between and cooler and more efficient 980 and almost a Fury X.
