Seanspeed try Blighttown on PS3. Now that is an fps issue!

TBH if you're used to 60 most of the time you'll definitely feel the difference. Guess I'm used to it!
Oh I played Dark Souls on the X360. I know *all* about Blighttown! lol

That was before I started PC gaming and was mostly oblivious to framerate issues, tearing, IQ, etc. Even then I still knew that Blighttown was absolutely miserable because of the performance issues. I love the area, though. Not a hater at all. One of the more complex, challenging, unique and interesting areas in any of the Souls games.

Anyways, I've been playing for a little while and I'm starting to 'get past' the performance issues. Like, it's still super noticeable all the time, but I'm able to enjoy what's there.

And what's there is..........surprisingly easy so far. I think doing a melee-only, agile, no shield playthrough of Dark Souls 2 really kind of prepared me for this. Dodging is the name of the game. Already got my cleaver up to +2. Blood vials are given out quite generously, so I'm regularly maxed out on them. Just exploring the area so far, which is quite complex and large. I like it. I'm guessing these two things I ran across:

Are some top baddies(dont spoil anything for me please!). I've got one more place I want to check out before I take them on. That'll have to wait til a bit later, though(gotta clean up a bit and eat dinner). Despite my complaining, I am enjoying it quite a bit.

Well done mate. I always wish i could use the thing from men in black to wipe my memory of a souls esk game and play it with fresh eyes as the exploration and risk reward of going deeper in to the unknown is what shines with these games

Keep at it, will say blood vials do become more scarce and i often return to the starting zone to farm them

Yeah frame rate was fine for me also, same with level design and visuals etc etc. I have seen other opinions like Seanspeeds but they're fairly rare I'd say probably 1 in every 50 or so. Everybody is different but for me personally, this is the best game of this generation so far.

FPS was the least of my problems with this game, talent now that is where i needed more..

Great game, fantastic bosses but wow as I've said before, its hard. I had never played a souls game before, wow if this is the easier of the souls games, I'm never touching dark souls - EVER..!!! : - )

I had never played a Souls game before it either and I do feel your pain, it's really tough at the start. Overall though I think it gets easier once you've dropped a few bosses, I don't think the game itself becomes easier you just get settled into the environment and you know what to expect at a certain point.

So, this is quite hard so far but I think thats probably due to having not played it for about 6 months and not knowing where I'm going. Its amazing how much fear it adds not knowing where the next lantern will be.

On my replay now its great because its been long enough that i have forgotten a few areas and layouts so feels fresh again! One reborn gave me some trouble which is weird because i always found that to be the easiest bods in the game, or a close second to the one after it. Either way got both done and am on the on before the last.

So will do that one then go around and finish areas to gain as many levels i can then go for the dlc :)

With blade of mercy what is the best way to use it? I understand dodging then attacking gets the best damage but is that a case of dodge, hit once, dodge, hit again? Or should i dodge and spam the attack until my stamina is low then dodge and repeat? Bit unclear on whats the bedt way to use it

Given the hub design of the game, I'm guessing that means you can return to the first area quite easily throughout the game ala Demons Souls?

I'm having to farm some right now myself. Was getting cocky, blowing through everything, beat the Cleric Beast first try, and then.......Father Gascoigne. Holy hell is he another story. As usual in Souls games, the faster bosses are some of the most difficult and often most rewarding. But this guy feels cheap at times. He can end just about any attack or combo in an *immediate* gunshot attack, making this decision to attack him a crapshoot. His gunshot attack also seems to unpredictably either get blocked or go through gravestones. I can usually get him to his final form, but then it's just fairly hopeless. He knocks me down once and that's basically it since he can just keep attacking me and I cant do anything about it. He can close distances ultra quick making it very difficult to get away to heal if I need to and once he's attacking, he just goes on non-stop, moving forward at the same time. Getting away is also difficult because it's very easy to run into gravestones or something or the other that dominate the area, trapping me.

I've had to watch a few videos and I still dont quite the gunshot stuff. I see a lot of people shooting him and then doing a critical attack, but I cant pull it off. Haven't successfully done it once and the price for missing is almost always death since I have to be locked on to him somewhat close up.

I'm not actually enjoying this boss at all. I just feel entirely helpless, unlike guys like Artorias or Fume Knight who were super difficult, but I at least could feel the potential to beat them so long as I learned their attacks and played smart and whatnot.

Just bought this. I don't have a PSN sub - will I miss out on anything playing this offline?
If it's anything like other Souls games, then maybe. Depends on if you like to co-op with others or do PvP. But it's all entirely optional and is perfectly well designed for single players, too.

The Hunter's refuge is the hub a la Demon's. It all opens up from there.

Father G is tough but I think I had him on my 3rd attempt. I didn't riposte much in this game, generally I two handed everything and went for power. You will have to learn the timing of it eventually though, as I found out later on.

Just beat him. Using a different weapon made a massive, massive difference. Cleaver just wasn't ideal at all, I guess.

Also only just figured out I could 'transform' weapons to get extra reach.

So yea, I think I was trying to do it the hard way. Charge attacks using the transformed version of the Axe was key and almost made it easy.

EDIT:

What are the Arcane and Bloodtinge stats useful for? I'm not spending any points on them at the moment, but I dont know if I should be or not? :/

Been playing The Old Hunters today and sweet jesus...

I need to take a break for a while. I put my NG++ on hold to dig into the DLC -- fighting Ludwig at lvl 154 with Ludwig's Holy Sword+10 and Burial Blade+10, and I swear... I must have had at least 25 attempts so far.

It's like that very first encounter with the Cleric Beast all over again. Driving me insane.

So are u playing the dlc with the ng++ character? Sounds tough!

Hoping to play it just on ng that i am running atm.

Just a happy little reminder to those playing the new content, please be cautious of spoilers etc and tag appropriately. The best part of these games is the little suprises and explorations of new areas

Thanks!!

You can have entire characters built around these stats, i believe bloodtinge affects guns but im not too sure as i havent felt the need to spend in either of these ever!

Well done for finding the transform! Big part of the game :D makes the weapon act differently for different situations.

Try and get used to using the gun to stun enemies so you can do a visceral attack (basically massive crit). Helps in many situations and can be used on a lot of enemies big and small. Its basically shoot when they are mid attack (easier said that done) but causes you to study the enemie movement etc adding even more to it imo.

I kind of suck at doing it but got it down on the baic enemies

Yeah the new DLC is nails. You can be quite happily scooting along and suddenly you make a wrong move and its all over. I forgot what blood borne was like first play through!

That feeling of "If I jump down here am I going to just die and lose all my echoes" coupled with "I'm pretty sure thats where I need to go but I really don't want to."

I do love that feeling though, no other game really offers pure dread :D

Lol, its true. I have learnt not to worry about dying at all. Its all about the progress and not the blood echoes. I'm lvl130ish and some of the hunters are just brutally hard to beat.

Christ I haven't even gotten past the Blood Starved Beast yet, seriously need to start putting a lot more time into this game. Not sure if I'm worn out on the souls style games or what but I've had it since release and barely played :(.

Ah, so it's basically just like a longer range version of parrying? I never really got the hang of that in any of the Souls games(didn't like the risk/reward factor if I didn't get it right). Guess now's as good a time as any to learn...

Kind of yea! But not so much range, you still need to be close because once stunned you only have a few seconds to stand infront of them and press r1 for the big attack ;) dont want to miss that window!

Dlc seems good so far, not found a boss yet just taking as many different ways as i can. Dont get much blood echoes from this area compared to later game vanilla areas
